I took the plunge and updated from Nodo (stock) to Mango 7720 RTM yesterday and I've been very very impressed. Here are some early impressions:
Everything is snappier, there's no delay when going into Xbox or Zune (now called Music/Videos) and it feels rock solid stable. Also the marketplace is much more responsive and fast. Updates seem faster especially the social feeds; it was already a smooth consistent OS but I'm blown away.
I love that I can finally have multiple calendars and decide how each one is displayed.
Twitter integration alongside Facebook works just as expected so gone are all my twitter apps. It also pulled and linked all my twitter contacts with my existing contacts without me needing to do anything. Twitter contacts are not displayed by default which actually works well.
When I click on a podcast it now offers me the option to subscribe from the phone, again handy as it was I used on Android.
Search now has several additional options, music search which is a built in Shazam and worked flawlessly on the few obscure tracks my wife and I tried to trick it with, text scan with built in translate was also very impressive, and there's local scout. Hit search, press scout and it brings up some lists based on where you are, eat+drink, see+do etc, think Yell. Hit on a search result you get address with one click for directions and all the other details incl. web site. I went into this thinking it be a US centric but there's obviously some effort gone into filling it out for the UK.
I haven't tried TBT navigation yet but I plan on taking it for a spin later.
The Task manager works as expected, hold the back button and you get the 6 previous apps and the screen grab from the state they were left in. Apps need to be programmed for fast resume but MS have made this easy and they expect all the popular apps and games to support this before christmas.
IE 9. Tbh I liked the browser on Nodo and can't really notice any difference yet other than they've got rid of the favourites button from the screen which I don't like!
There are a host of other small features from choosing favourite photos for it to pick between on the pictures tile, being able to tag faces when uploading from the camera, Sky Drive in Office (access to my docs appeared without me having to anything extra, very nice), custom ringtones, merged mail, larger more informative volume music control, etc etc.
I'll add more as I get on with it but I'm very happy so far. The update was largely easy process although I hit a small snag doing the final 7712 to 7720 update and had to get my hands dirty editing a batch file to stop it from timing out though I think this problem may be limited to 8GB Omnia users.
