MobileMe Launching (Early) Thursday!

I love the interface so much. I just signed up for a trial and I use it enough, I won't cancel the payment.

Pity it is so slow at the minute.

I am struggling to work out how it all ties in at the monent. I understand MobileMe and your iPhone but how does it tie in with your desktop?

You can make changes on the web interface / reply to emails and all changes are "pushed" to your other devices.

So, say you're in work and you add a contact.. it'll be on your phone, without any sync needed (I'm lying, it's magic)

i assume you can also sync your other accounts? or is it just the me.com mail account?

i.e. i have a work pop3 mail account which would be great to sync fully (not much use just forwarding cuz i wouldn't be able to reply from the work address)

Just says so in the specs. Your email address in your trust?
For the syncing and such you will need 10.5.4, however to view the online section you won't need the update as its browser only.

And yup, email in trust.

I get that bit and it does work, what I am getting at is at home I would expect to use some desktop application for mail and calendering.

Outlook does this but from the 5 minutes playing around I can't see how it works. I have setup my MobileMe account as an IMAP account as per the instructions. I sent a message but it does not appear on my iPhone in the sent messages or via the MobileMe web interface.

Everything's working for me (to varying degrees of speed) - but I still can't get the MobileMe update from Software Update :(

It isn't available through Software Update yet - I got the package via the Mac Rumors forum. I have the package hosted here if you want it though;

Last night before I crashed out iTunes told me that my iPod could be updated but wouldn't actually go to the update. This morning it did it properly with no issues and my Touch is just restoring my music back to it now.

So I've grabbed the mobileme update from dannyraul (thanks!) and will install that once my iPod is restored and job should be a good 'un.

Have signed up to mobile me free trial. Managed to get my first choice username which is a surprise as this username was not available with a .mac account. I thought all .mac account were converted to a me.com account too? So if the username was not available via .mac how come it's available as a me.com?

Same. I also don't understand this.

Also, signed up for a trial and apple charged me £120 to my account for no reason. Ridiculous to say the least.

Will be canceling asap.

that's not good regarding the £120 :s hopefully apple will rectify this without too much hassle and hopefully we get to keep our 1st choice username.

You would be able to sign up if the name was an alias (as I think they aren't converted to @me.com) or if the account had been inactive for quite a long time.

I've just realised something - the whole point of MobileMe is that you're able to access your Mail, Calendar, Contacts and iDisk no matter where you are or which computer you're using. The flakey support of IE is a major issue. Lack of IE6 support means I won't be able to use it at Uni AT ALL, and lack of full IE7 compatibility means using it on other people's computers will be hit and miss depending on what browser they use and what version they're running.

Once again compatibility issues screw us Mac users over...but from Apple?!

Bah, the trial only accepts Visa / Mastercard / Amex so can't get on it.

Is there any other way to get MobileMe other than buying the box and waiting a month for delivery via the Apple store?
