'Modem mode' VM firmware imminent ? Looks like it.....

Yes, you're right mate, but like I said, theres a lot of people, who don't have a clue how to disable wireless, or anything else in the routers setup, so for them, it's a much simpler solution, to simply put the router into "modem mode"
It's nothing new, I've been doing the same for weeks now, it's really just aimed at the "technically dumb" people

Ah right, fair enough. I thought it was really ease to get working :P, just disabled wireless on the Superhub plugged in the DIR-615 and it worked straight away.

Gonna replace the DIR-615 though as I find the WLAN range disappointing. Probably because my flat has crazily solid walls. What are good WLAN APs?

Which is what disabling wireless and using a Wireless access point does, which has been available in all firmwares? Why is R30 a sudden ephiphany? it's been well documented with loads of people that disabling the wireless works fine. I have been running like that for ages now, no dropouts, I have loads of devices connected on WLAN and Ethernet with no issues...

If the wireless is the only issue then yeah it is the same. It will still be using the router side though so if you had a decent cable wireless router already then this allows you to use it again fully.

What he said ^^
For me, I want my DIR655 back in service, as the SoupHoob does not allow sufficient number of port forwards, no QoS and - most importantly - no DDNS support :(

Modem mode will give me a proper, working network again, courtesy of the '655 and the SH can just be content as a modem !

I had a power outage this morning, so my router must have auto updated when it came back on a few min later as after reading this thread I checked and its now R30 :)

Now all I need to do is set up one of my E3000s the way I want it and then I'll be able to use that as my router :D

Fair enough, but couldnt you have done that by setting up your DIR 655 as DMZ in the Superhub?

mine also crashed today suprise suprise, on reboot r30 installed, now my download speed has drop from the 50 to 40 (not happy). it also takes forever to load some web pages, anyone else having similar issues?

Yep, Super hub was fine for me before R30 and now my internet speed has dropped from 30mbps to 20kbps!! My upload has dropped to 40kbps...

I'll have a mess around see if i can figure it out.

edit: It is the wireless, my wireless n card was connecting at 11mbps. I messed around changing the router speed from upto 300mbs to upto 54mbps and then i connected at 54mbps :s. I've now put it back to upto 300 and i am connecting at 108mbps, which is quick enough. I might just get some powerline adapters :)

Wifi range doesn't seem to have improved!

Is there a list of supposed "cures" that this firmware upgrde is supposed to have solved please?

Our R30 firmware includes the following changes:

1. Adds the Modem Mode feature.

2. Incorporates fixes for lock-ups (where the Super Hub appears unresponsive to traffic and the admin pages are unavailable) and reloads (where the Super Hub would reload for no apparent reason) while under heavy load in 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless modes. These symptoms were caused by a memory leak in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless driver. As part of these fixes we've changed the number of channels available under 5GHz to 4.

Don't need those - just need wifi that extends beyond 3 metres! Pretty useless firmware upgrade then!
