Monaco Grand Prix 2011, Monte-Carlo - Race 6/19

Oh dear, Sam Bird (back up to 10th from being last) just took out his team mate at the last corner and continues.

The team really should have moved Ericcson out of the way he'd been holding Bird up for 5 laps.

*ok while i was typing that, Ericcson got back past, then his rear wing collapsed at the chicane. Did well to catch the car sliding and not have a massive accident.

Bird and Ericcson now both out.

Shocking driving

3m45s is my favourite.
The driver probably got very tired and just couldn't be bothered to turn the steering wheel any more.

I know that not all races are like this, but it almost seems as if as long as you finish, you stand a good chance of finishing on the podium as many drivers would end up getting tired and just ramming into the back of another car because their braking foot was tired.

Someone explain the thing that is going to get banned to me? The off throttle fuel mapping to aid slowing the car. How does that work then? So someone's foot is off throttle yet it's still chucking fuel in to generate exhaust gasses over the blown diffuser to aid downforce to aid braking? Something like that? Or totally wrong?

I think that when the driver is not using the throttle the engine/ECU keeps running but on a mixture of a lot of air with very little fuel, this generates air coming out of the exhaust and if that is blown over a diffuser it would still generate extra downforce.

Think antilag systems but without the turbo :)

I wouldn't read too much into that report. It was originally a story in the Mirror by Byron Young, who for some reason ATM, seems to have it in for Hamilton.

LOL!

I love GP2 :)
Me too, although this was a pretty tame race by their standards. Should be more interesting tomorrow with the reversed grid and Max Chilton on pole. And by interesting, I mean accidents.
