Monaco Grand Prix 2011, Monte-Carlo - Race 6/19

I'd go with Vettel on pole and Hamilton for the win.

RBR's qualifying pace is light years ahead of everybody else, but their race pace is not.

I'm going to be bold and say that the front row won't feature a Red Bull.

I think RBR's advantage in qualifying has been down to the speed they carry through high speed corners due to a combination of aggressive off throttle mapping, rake and early use of DRS. RBR's off throttle mapping will be less effective in Monaco imo and DRS use is obviously restricted as it's a slow circuit, the place RBR will have been most effective would be the tunnel using DRS imo, but that's obviously banned now.

Been busy all day and not seen anything. Heard FP1 was red flagged so they could call a plumber, and that Red Bull aren't their usual 2 seconds faster than everyone, which is good.

Also, is the "super softs will only last 10 laps max" actually looking to be true?

Ah. Good. I was worried that we might end up in a situation where people didn't set qualifying laps because they would have literally run out of tyres.

20+ laps were done on them by many this afternoon. Still looked to have some pace in them at that point.

Think you mean the softs lasting that long? Not sure if we saw the teams doing that many laps on the super soft (red)?

edit: Nevermind, reading up on F1 Fanatic it seems the SS were lasting that long!

I have just seen the after P2 video with Lewis and I have never seen him so excited and raring to go..

Lewis pole and win for me.

How do you think this year will compare to last year?

Obviously Alonso was unable to qualify last year and Kubica isn't around this year but last year RBR went pole and 3rd.

What has changed do you think to suggest that RBR won't be right up there again on Saturday like they were at Monaco this time last year?

Chandahok was suggesting that RBR might have be running with extra fuel today...

Thats why I used to love watching GP2. The field is full of average drivers making stupid mistakes, which means the real talent shines through. Just a shame its on Sky :(

Just remember, those are the F1 drivers of tomorrow...

But thats the point, they aren't. 90% of GP2 drivers go no further. GP2 is excellent for whittling out the excellents from the mearly very goods. Last time I watched GP2 there was a flood of british guys doing well, so I hope atleast 1 of them gets up to F1.
