Monaco Grand Prix 2011, Monte-Carlo - Race 6/19

They're not actually banning the EBD are they? I thought they were going to restrict off-throttle use to 10% for running an EBD?

Also everyone is saying RB will suffer - but other teams are using EBDs too. McLaren, Ferrari and Renault will all see performance drops if it's banned/limited.

Obviously, Red Bull will see the biggest drop in pace as they seem to have theirs working the most effectively, so it would just in effect tighten up the top runners. Possibly bring Mercedes in to the mix as well, should they be able to stop their car chewing its tyres.

The fact is we don't know how much any of the teams are using it. If you watch the RB closely though, you can see how super optimised it is by the sheer level of downforce through the corners. RB will see a performance drop, more than most - who knows what will happen to the other teams. Vettel has done enough regardless.

Yep think it was to restrict it to a small %.

The last year or two it has looked on rails, so will be interesting to see how much is down to this. Vettel has made the most of it - same as Button did in 2009 compared to Barichello (& Williams, Toyota).

I can't see rbr being hindered too much by this. Their speed isn't just one thing, I don't think removing one will compromise the other. I think they will be just as fast if not combatively faster in the race. But may well lose a big chunk but not all in qualifying. But we will see.

Thats exactly what I think.

Also, there is no guarantee that the EBD technology will be constrained. Remember, the FIA are having a "meeting" about this, later this month. They have not stated that they will be banning/restricting it.

It could be that after the hearing, they may simply say, "We have investigated the matter of EBD and found no reason to restrict or ban it, for the 2011 season".

You would be a fool to bet against Vettel at this point.

You would have been a fool to bet against him after the first race tbh, it's just a continuation of last season except Red Bull are extremely reliable unlike the start of last season... and even better is that for whatever reason Webber can't get near Vettel (they're probably reducing his engine power in qualifying or something :p).

personaly i hope they ban it......but not the extent that vettel will loose the championship due to a technicality. I like to see some real racing, lewis and vettel battling it out through qualifine and in the race.

But it is working well enough for them to lead races and set fast laps?
After all you said yourself they aren't using it in the races hence the speed drop off from qually.

They cannot be using it all the time and the pace with the high rake is still there. Well to me it seems to be.
I wouldn't say they aren't using it in the race, I would just say less so. Due to the weight and the fuel consumption.

Hammi wasn't exactly a long way behind in Barcelona.

He's won 5 races. I fully expect him to win atleast 3 more races before anyone even thinks about banning EBD. When was the last time anyone won 8 races and lost a title?

No one has the consistency or a team mate to not take points off them like Vettel. Sure Massa wont trouble Alonso but the car is miles away from Red Bull, EBD or not.

The only way Vettel will lose this title is with a run of tragically bad reliability.

You are probably right, also the other teams will take points of each other, I hope it gets close though.

i missed this gp weekend just gone and only watched the race. before quali what was the difference between hamilton and vettel on the track? were people maybe expecting hamilton to have a chance at pole?

we never saw hamiltons race pace because he was always stuck behind another car.

Combined practice times.

The condensed highlights - Alonso quickest by a good half-second, Genii-LOLtus-Renaults not all that quick despite many tipping them to have pace, gap of over a second from 8th to 9th (!), Hamilton just slightly quicker than Vettel.
