Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

Your maths sucks :p. But also they missed some races in their early seasons.

There were only 62 races between 1981 and 1985 (15, 16, 15, 16), and they missed the first three of '81, and two in '82 (the US and Canadian).

That would make this their 501st, so I'm guessing there must be a random one in there they didn't make.

There's at least one the Toleman team didn't make through all sorts of mishaps, 84 they annoyed tyre suppers too much...

Or it could be the Renault crash-gate doesn't count in the history books of f1...

Some quick Wiki Maths makes this the 514th race for that team?

Toleman (1981 - 1985) - 70 Races
Benetton (1986-2001) - 260 Races
Renault (2002 - 2010) -159 Races
Lotus Renault (2011) - 19 Races
Lotus F1 (2012) - 6 Races

Now I'm completely confused

It gets worse.... If it's 500 Enstone team based races...

Toleman was based in Witney not Enstone. :D

Once Benetton took over they moved everything over winter 1992/1993 to Enstone. So work that out. ;)

Why are they celebrating the 500 anyway? They want to celebrate all the history but they want to do it as a newly branded team? It would be like me buying Ferarri, renaming it DesiresF1 changing the colour scheme to blue and creating a whole new logo and then a later having a party celebrating my Italian heritage. Just because you kept the employees and factory does not make it the same team imo.

Its a tricky one because some teams move slowly between ownership, while others are quite clearly sold off completely and bought by someone else. The line can get a bit blurred.

But I do think the "Lotus' 500th Grand Prix" statement is deliberately misleading.

Grr want to go to beach this weekend, means I will miss the race or quali, this is why I like early morning races!

Off topic a bit
Has here ever been a thread with a poll about what f1 team you support? I can't find one.

Would be interested to see the spread

Damn straight.
Personally, I feel they should be called Renault. I can't believe that they managed to steal the name.

I do wonder, in terms of funding, which company gives them the most money. In the past it was Renault, as they were a works team, but I'm not sure sure now.

In the previous thread, somebody referred to them as "Evil Lotus", which I think is more apt.

Why Renault? They have had zero input to the team (ignoring the engine) from Renault since 2009? The team is owned by Genii.

Edit: Actually, I'm confused now. There are reports saying that Renault sold their 25% stake they had in 2010 to Lotus, but other reports saying that Lotus never actually bought this stake and have until the end of 2012 to do so? Who owns that 25%? Was it sold to Genii to sell on?

Either way, the team is owned by Genii predominantly, and the chassis is called Lotus under the branding agreement. Calling the team Renault would mean naming the team after the engine supplier....

I put alonso to win the Drivers championship and RBR to win the constructors in the link skeeter posted.

Whose everyone else picking?

I very nearly chose Alonso, then couldn't bring myself to do it so chose Vettel :D. I've no confidence in McLaren not shooting themselves in the foot all season long.

Back on the subject of Lotus and making up facts, it appears maths is definitely not their strong suit:

So 189 + 156 + 350 + 182 + 250 = 1168 In la-la-Lotus land.

For everyone else it's 1127.

All 4 drivers you have mentioned could win the title.
It really is "that" close this year.
Also, don't discount Kimi. He is in good form and the car is decent.

Well over 50% is Genii. Genii also said that if the need to they will fill the gap left by the Lotus deal falling through.

Renault owned 25% in 2010, but I have completely failed to find out where that 25% is now? I'm assuming Lotus bought it and then dropped it?
