Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

Has anyone been watching the previous Monaco o gps on sky f1?

Tonite is 2011

I've watched 08,09,10 so far.

Starts now and is the full gp.

A lot of comparisons are being made between the McLaren and last year's RBR, which is pretty accurate for qualifying, but I think the biggest difference is race pace rather than team mistakes. Last year, RBR could have had a cross-threaded wheel nut at every pit stop and probably still won both championships. That was the nature of their dominance.

Last year there was a lot more leeway for building up a pitstop lead on tyres, this year the tyres have meant that the gap a leader can pull out is much much much smaller, and one pitstop error suddenly puts you both in traffic and dropping a position or two.

Vettel last year had tyres/car that could pull out a 10-15 second gap on 3rd or 4th place, pit, even make a mistake and still be in clear(ish) air as the top 5-6 spread out quite a bit.

This season the leader is probably only getting a 5 second lead, because both tyres need less pushing and the pole sitter generally has the worst tyres. Likewise because of the lack of outright pace being able to be shown not just by the leader, but by the top 10, when you pit, if its first you aren't down in 3-4th, you're back down to 7-10th, AND you're suddenly in behind those going for less stops who started well from 10th and are on newer/better/longer lasting tyres, and all of a sudden your good tyres are being held up behind a slower car.

Tyre's are pushing everyone closer together, limiting the lead someone can build, and a very small mistake can push you back 5 places and screw your entire race now.

It's not (as I posted earlier), its 500 for the team's lineage of Renault, Benetton and Toleman ;)

Confusingly funny, but since Toleman's entry into F1 in the 80's the team in its various guises have competed in 500 races.

Did a bit of Maths as they've said that it's 500 races of the Enstone based team.

Given that they were based in Enstone from the 1993 season, they're celebrating 332 races not 500.

Something that F1 has needed for best part of 20 years! In some respects it actually adds some skill and professionalism to the teams and drivers weekend to try and secure a win...

We have close to an answer :D (the team wanted some extra attention)

Both HRT's currently a full second outside of the 107% time. Hopefully they'll not be allowed to race at this rate as opposed to allowing them even when they are outside it.

lol, photographer on the other side of barrier Di Resta hit getting a bit of a surprise :p

Both Force India's screwing up, Hulkenberg being slow in a dangerous corner almost causing a crash with Perez and Di Resta screwing himself up and then slowing everyone down coming back into the pits.

As for Maldanado..... missing a back wheel there matey. Wait, from the replay, what happened there exactly?

All kicking off at the end of the session, Hulkenburg holding Perez up, Di Resta binning it coming out of the tunnel and now Maldonado has smashed his car up!

Session red flagged due to Maldonado making an arse of it. Clouted a corner on the way into it and then hit the wall on the way out.

Maldonado also cut across Perez and hit him - looked deliberately.
Not the first time he's done that. Time for him to get booted.
