Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

That is interesting as there are 3 merc running teams this season and all have shown some inconsistencies.

Merc them selves have been quick in qualiy, same as McLaren but something has to be holding them back on race day. Thought FI had just built a dog this year, but it could explain the relative drop off to their nearest rivals (Sauber and Williams).

Seems my sarcastic dig at McLarens Spain qualifying screw up passed some people by...

Remember F1 is serious business! :p

It is a funny remark but a little off topic... ;)

Seems like they are finding that tanking the car up is making it handle like a whale (can only assume that Button was trying to do long runs P2 in Spain when he was whining constantly) when quali it seems to handle like a catfish!

good to see the renault engine really making a difference this year if this is indeed the case

I believe it has always been the best all round engine despite lacking a bit of top end, we dont know how much but a respected insider on autosport suggest its around 10bhp or so.

Every time horner turns up on tv the power difference goes up, I think its around 11.3 trillion bhp now.

I doubt there is much in it. In terms of BHP. The Renault has always had great driveability and traction. Maybe it's not as peaky as the Merc, and has a wider torque curve.

Although aero is the major player, Renualt engine teams are regularly the fastest through speed traps - Red Bull are the only ones who seem to lack top speed and that's probably more down to their gearing, as their car is likely to have much less drag than the Lotus or Williams

How come they are practising on a thurs?

Also the weather on formula1.com is giving thunderstorms for Sat.

Qualifying might be lulsy

Friday is a 'rest day' in Monaco so practice is always on Thursday... It's hard work being all rich and drinking champagne all day you know :p

But they work on saturday so no odds.

Steering/suspension problems with Kimi. I'm surprise how good he's been since he's come back as Lotus rarely let him out much in free practices

Less than 40mins left in FP1 and McLaren haven't bothered to set a time. Might be waiting for track to evolve but surely they want to get some laps in.
