Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

That's got to be the worst race I can remember watching in a long time. Very disappointed, but I should know what to expect from Monaco by now :(

One day, maybe, just maybe, Hamilton might bump into lady luck. She is proving elusive at the moment though ( probably due to her being in bed with Vettel)

:p

Just watched this race. Only 1 thing to say really, the 2 tyre compound rule ruined that race.

And Alonso surely has to be favourite for the title?

Ok, 2 things...

you don't have to go anywhere near the limit of yourself or the car to achieve this.

It's not skill or race craft, they just can't get passed even if you ease off 3 or more seconds per lap. I understand the spectacle but I don't think you have to be anymore inch perfect than you would anywhere else if you want to win.

Are you serious ?

If you read any drivers opinions on Monaco all will disagree.

Slight lack of concentration and it's probably all over.

Seb had nowhere else to go, surely? There's no mechanism in place to correct the advantage he gained from it. You can't tell him to give back 3 places since the order has changed so much in the chaos, and you can't give him a drive through for not driving into an accident.

well for that corner they usually say "if there was a barrier there, you couldnt have cut the corner to start with", so a penalty is applied (for not driving around an accident ON the track)

It gave those starting on that side of the track TOO huge an advantage given the track /impossible to overtake

Of course the "1st lap incidents to be ignored" was given precedence for some ridiculous reason

(of course , they are effectively cutting the pit lane exit line also which is another reason for penalisation)

Apparently his fastest lap was 1.5s faster than the guys on the podium,

Could have been a contender

Landed on new tyres and a empty track, the leaders never improved in race pace, they went from starting on 1:20's to 1:19's back to 1:20's, so lots of cruising around 5s off pace just to pull off a one stop as the tyre lottery breeds with monacos typically dreary racing to produce the perfect storm of dull.

In qualifying yeah, in the race no way...

In qualifying the top guys were running the low 14's, the fastest race lap was a 1:17.296 (almost exactly 3 seconds off pole) and that was by one driver who must've got bored of trundling around on a sunday drive.

If the best drivers in the world can't lap at 5+ seconds off the pace without making mistakes then there's something very wrong there, and as we say yesterday they can lap perfectly fine at that pace and make a nice boring spectacle.

So in general, what a dull race, only guy in the top 6 that overtook anyone on track did so by cutting a corner at the start :p

I can see why they go to Monaco, for all the glitz and glamour, but as a race it's truly dreadful, easily the worst of the season so far and probably the worst of the entire season, hell it was worse than last years Monaco so probably gonna take the title for the past 2 seasons, I can't be bothered to think back any further :p

I actually found the train behind Webber near the end quite exciting, slippy track in fading light only requires someone to half-try something for it to turn on it's head, but OK, nothing happened this time.

Hearing drivers say they could go much quicker earlier on though is disappointing, but I'd still take yesterday's race over anything that's ever happened at Valencia.

Was a pretty dull race to be fair.

Commentators over egging things all the time, like when they all backe dup at the end, it just turned into a 5 car follow the leader, they probably all knew if one of them tried a move it could take them all out so they didn't bother.

monaco was exciting with refueling and people couldnt afford to cruise around.

with no refueling and crappy tyres its just a snooze fest

It shows how bad this track is when webber dropped to 1:24's for a couple of laps and still no one in that train of 6 made a pass.

Mclaren need to get their act together or Hamilton will be off at the end of his contract.

Replacement for webber or schui?

Can't see him teaming with alonso again.

No it was boring back then as well, it's always been a boring track for racing. You know when they could pit for fuel they all still tended to pit at the same time right and react to what someone else was doing?
