Monaco Grand Prix 2014, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

I love Monaco. It's seldom a great race in itself, but it's a massive challenge for the drivers, and for that alone I love watching the cars being hauled around here. That's the same reason why Singapore is my favourite of the new tracks.

As for results, short of mechanical problems or loldonado I can see another Merc 1-2. I think RBR will be quick but would rather Williams do well so will say Bottas 3rd.

To be fair to Maldonado (and I've not said that much), he's raced here 3 times in F1 and arguably he wasn't responsible for any of his retirements - he was taken out by Hamilton, caught up in the knock on effect of Grosjean hitting Schumacher, and then hit by Chilton.

This is anyone's race. Merc will just turn down the power for this race.

Not sure if serious!?

Merc is the best all-round package still, and although this is not a high aero, with less turbo lag, more linear power delivery, and better throttle response/control. The Merc should be much more drive-able stable and predictable on this tight circuit where millimetres count!

The only unknown is if Renault have sorted some stuff out (Jerez test might point to progress, but we dont know the program's being run), and this could give Lotus/RB a better chance, but even then, i still put Merc out in front.

For what it's worth, bookies odds for the Monaco GP winner (best odds shown):

Hamilton: 8/13
Rosberg: 2/1
Vettel: 14/1
Ricciardo: 16/1
Alonso: 40/1
Raikkonen: 66/1

The bookies, at least, think that Mercedes are still overwhelming favourites, and Hamilton has a clear edge over Rosberg.

I think Hamilton will get pole and go on to win the race unless he tags a barrier/back marker.

Roseberg probably second but a little further back as I'm guessing team order will be in effect at this race unless a undercutting overtake could be done. It is too risky to pass at Monaco :p

As for 3rd I think Vettel might be up there due to a good quali if he gets the balance he is happy with in practice. Hopefully there is a little bit of fighting for 3rd between the Redbulls and Ferrari, maybe a sneaky Mclaren in there too?

I think there may be very limited passing this year as the teams seem very closely matched meaning a lot of teammates meeting each other on the track and some very nervous engineers. I really do hope I'm wrong though :D

Each year the cars seem even more unwieldy when it comes to Monaco, they are just no longer made remotely designed for that track. It is still fascinating to watch the drivers be mm's away from the barriers but it defiantly doesn't make for much of a race with how delicate the cars are and the sheer size of them.

Wooohoooo Formula 1 weekend :D

Expecting Red Bull to be a heck of a lot closer this race, I can see another team winning this race than Mercedes, just a hunch.

I still think that unless they break down or one of them puts it into the wall, the mercs will still have it in the bag.

.....I should have included Grosjean too :p Specifically looking at Monaco then Maldonado has had some bad luck but it doesn't change the chances of him causing an accident this time.

I just can't get on with Hamilton and his 'cool' attitude and petty whining.

What whining ? Or are you just making stuff up because you don't like him ? All drivers are negative with the media when things don't go their way. You never see anyone say ' Yup, crashed out at the first corner, my fault, but a brilliant race all the same'.

That's got to be worth an each way on the RBRs. Averages out at 3/1 for one of them to be on the podium.

It's the worst track, should be prize money only. If BBC was to drop any track to keep another I'm happy it's monaco. Lewis will win easily enough. I'm sure Rosberg will be close weaving about but if he can't pass on a real racing circuit he has less than no chance at Monaco.

BBC don't have it live? Either they changed their tactic when selecting races, or the selection process changed. Silverstone, Monaco and the last race of the season have been their first pick 3 in previous years.

BBC didn't pick Monaco as a live race last year either, I remember being surprised at the decision...

Of course they lost out on the "TBC" race that never happened, so only showed 9 live races all season I think, unless they inherited one?
