Monaco Grand Prix 2014, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

One of the best tracks on the circuit and the bbc aren't covering it live. Lame.

Gotta agree with this. I always really enjoy Monaco, not because of any overtaking or anything - but the fact that the cars are going so fast in a confined space demonstrating driver's ability. When you compare to tracks like Bahrain that until this year had been boring as hell with miles of run off!

Apart from a few instances, Monaco has always been about the occasion, rather than the race.

I imagine the drivers and spectators love it due to being so unique, but the TV audience doesn't get much apart from the scenery and occasional crash :p

I don't understand how real F1 fans cannot love F1 at Monaco?!

Its pure driving, on the razors edge. 1 tiny mistake can end the race. There is a reason why the drivers hold victory here in such high esteem.

F1 and Monaco are the finest of bedfellows.

I think there's a healthy amount of nostalgia there though, much as I love Monaco. I went to last year's race and none of the drivers was anywhere near the razor's edge, unit Kimi had to pit late on and had fresh rubber. They were 5 seconds a lap within themselves and it was clearly visible.

It was more enjoyable watching Sean Edwards (RIP) win the Porsche Cup in the morning.

That said, there is of course a huge sense of occasion and atmosphere. But it just hasn't been on the track in recent years.

That's got to be worth an each way on the RBRs. Averages out at 3/1 for one of them to be on the podium.

Sadly not. Because of Merc's dominance, each way in F1 is only top 2 now. 3rd place gets nothing on an each way bet.

You can have a 'podium finish' - Vettel is 5/4, Ricciardo is 11/8 and if you fancy RBR scoring a double podium then that's 3/1.

what has he been whining about?

He probably means Hamilton's whining when things go wrong for him. As he has the best car out of anyone this year he's beaming all the time and always happy, which is a good thing I suppose!

Out of all the drivers on the grid I think Hamilton has the biggest mood swings though.

You can track Lewis's relationship with Nicole Scherzinger by looking at his on-track performance. Every time they have a bust up he puts in a classic race, every time they get back together he bins it. He's like the anti-Coulthard, the less sex he gets the faster he drives. :D

I thought it was the other way around

When they've split up he's moody and quick to blame everything, when they're together he's happy, and when he's happy, he generally comes first (ooo-errr :p)

Are we thinking Mercedes are going to continue to dominate, or could Red bull's good chassis cause an upset?

Just something I've thought about now

EDIT: Will also add in my thoughts that I dislike that Monaco is on the calender yet tracks such as Hockenheim or Turkey aren't, simply as a result of money.

Do get that F1 is a business though etc. etc.

I always get excited for Monaco, and then a few laps in I remember why I shouldn't.
Fantastic from an event point of view, terrible as a race for me to watch and enjoy. Ah well, maybe this will will somehow do something different!?

Well if we're making wild predictions with no basis then I'll join the club too.

While I'm not sure that suck is the right word, it's hardly a prediction with no basis. They've been very disappointing in all but the first race of the year, and if anything they seem to be going backwards compared to other teams.

I really hope they change the trend and start improving, but it would be going against what they've been doing so far this season :(.

It was a joke.. the sky is definitely going to be blue for a long while, as will McLaren suck for a long while. It was an obvious prediction :p

And yet Monaco is the only track that pays Bernie precisely nothing for the privilege of holding a GP.

Everyone always says they are on a knife edge inches from the walls, but every race every year all the drivers do the same thing lap after lap never touching the walls.

I dont think it is like they make out.

The drivers do not race flat out so are almost never going to hit the walls.
