Mondeo's...

Quinn are good for young drivers. CIS are alright aswell.

Norwich Union gave me the cheapest quote for my first year, although that was 3 years ago.

Hello again chopper.

I am in the exact same situation as you, got £500ish to spend, am very tall and have big feat ;) (Which makes driving the mums punto a right PITA).

I too love the foucus (started learning in an 07 and driving instructor took delivery of his 08 a few weeks ago which is also lovely). However focus is going to be my second car becuase they are a bit to expensive for me right now.

However for me Mondeo 1.8 LX '97 blah blah comes out at just over 3k on the old insurance.

In my research (through getting actual quotes, not just going by insurance quotes) the following have been cheapest for me:

106
306
Saxo
Corsa
Ka

Those are the only cars that come under 1.8k for myself.

Insurance wise, Direct Line and Tesco offer me the best fully comp prices. And eCar offer the best TPFT prices.

Quite chuffed, now I work at tesco I get a 15% reduction on their insurance which is always nice, however that kinda negates the fact they are like 20% more expensive than ecar for myself! but on the upside they do not charge any extra if you want to pay via direct debit which is a nice touch.

Good luck! Still no idea what I'm gonna get for myself, got to the point now where I really couldn't care less. Just 4 wheels and an engine! (and sub 3k inc cost of car, insurance, tax, mot and maintenance for 12months)

i been doing quotes on 306's and that £1,899.45 with directline, i also added my dad as 2driver brings it down quite a lot 2.

I'd at least get a part-time job first to fund your car. Spend some time getting a job before investing in a car. You'll need money to run it etc. :)

Can't believe the insurance is coming out that high, absolutely dreading getting quotes myself... :\

£2,069.55 comprehensive on my own with church hill
£2,155.65 Third Party...

Err? lol

gonna add my dad to it now...

£2,028.60 Comprehensive
£1,526.70 Third Party

Ensleigh constantly come out on top for my quotes.

Hint: go through confused.com, oddly they are constantly cheaper than going direct, even though that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Why are you getting quotes with the most expensive insurers out there? LOL!

Church Hill and Direct Line shouldn't be considered for new drivers IME.

Try the ones I've mentioned. You might be surprised by the quote Quinn gives you.

Ok, maybe not then!

That's terrible, people would think you live in Beirut! :D

What annual mileage are you putting down? Commuting, business use?

Out in the street, garaged, drive way. Security?

All makes a difference.

i gave up with Norwich Union, after doing it 3 times it just kept sending me back to the start and to fill it out all over again.

" those most expensive insurers, seem to be cheaper :p "

You people live in the wrong places!

When I was 17 I was insured named driver on my mums 1.8l Sierra, which is basically the 5 year ago equivilent of an old Mk2 Mondeo now, for £900 TPFT.

That car cost £200 for reference, and was a hoot!

And as for Mondeos, £700 bought me a T reg 1.8 Zetec on 100k with almost £1000 spent on it in the last 6 months including front brakes, suspension and clutch. £500 will EASILY buy you an older/higher miles one.

Im currently insured (at 21) TPFT on the Mondeo with 2 years NCB at £390 whcih includes DoC, with FlexiBell!

:)

just been doing quotes on some cars on church hill, and i have found a car i like, rover 214 si 1.6 16v, insurance is £1,500 on my own third party, or £1,600 comprehensive.

I may get 1 of those then, unless any 1 else says other wises?

Those quotes are unreal!

Which part of Lincoln do you live in chopper? (though something tells me that Lincoln, being a relativly small place is all the same area weighting for insurance)

The saving grace, is, as skeeter points out, that once you pass 21 and have a few NCB then it gets less obscene!

Oftopic, I think you might be friend, of a friend, of a friend, or something like that (feel free to email me[trust]):P
