Monetary gift/present for house cleaner at Christmas?

Not that I've ever employed a cleaner, but don't see how you can go wrong with cash in a card tbh. Just make sure it's not too low (like I'd say £5 would just feel a bit mean to me and better to give nothing) or awkwardly large. I like the idea of buying something for their kids too if you know they have some and what they might like etc (might be weird if you don't ever talk about them though, maybe depends how chatty you both are when she's there).

This is a level of kindness that I like to see.

On the flipside, so tempting to not be serious...
One day get her to come and "clean" but she can put her feet up with a vodka and tv, you can do the cleaning that day...

I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting in my client's place with a vodka whilst they do my job. The awkwardness would surpass that of a game of soggy biscuit with Hurfdurf.

Damn it man. I have a vivid imagination and have seen (by accident) a round of soggy biscuit being played!

We normally gift some wine / chocolates (we know she enjoys them). But a Christmas card with some cash or a gift voucher is fine too.

We have her round 2x per week for 2hrs really helps the effort needed to keep the house tidy especially with 2 kids. That said we're quite neat, so are the kids (as much as they can be) but we mainly use her for doing all the jobs we don't want or have time to.

It does feel at times unnecessary but she's good at spotting things that need cleaning.

That's a big house.
How much does she clean? Like dusting and stuff too?
Yeah, it’s also cleaning the oven (6 hob range oven), the conservatory/our kids playroom and all of the bathrooms in the house so I’m not sure how she’d be able to do it any quicker. She’s brilliant to be fair and has definitely offered to do additional items in the house when she finds she’s done before the usual time allotted.

Similar boat to you in that I also work from home so the office I work in doesn’t get the clean but that room is basically a work laptop and a monitor so it’s not overly needed!

Pressing X to doubt, but even so, nowhere near a day's work. Very few people will be spending over £100 a month on a cleaner, you're in a tiny minority.

A few friends and people at work hire cleaners, but not one of them hires one for half a day.
I mean I imagine it’s already a small enough minority of people getting a cleaner, I can’t think that I’d have been able to afford/justify getting a cleaner when I lived on my own in a one bed flat in the city.

I think you’re right though, I’m basing my judgement on conversations with our cleaner (and our previous one) where our house/the cleaning job/frequency is on the smaller side for them and realistically that’s not going to a representation of the whole lot.

Have a rangemaster cooker too.
What a pain to clean those gas hobs. Rather her than me.

Ah it can be a nightmare to clean! I love it, great to cook on and having lots of hobs/2 ovens has come in useful on lots of occasions now but a real pain to clean.

We tend to get a proper person in to clean it every 2 years or so (usually after Christmas) and it makes a really nice difference.
