*** Monster Hunter: Wilds Thread ***

The most important question : what is everyone choosing as their main weapon ?

Still undecided, but I think I'll be going with longsword and bow as secondary.

Longsword as always, somehow they've made it even more fun in Wilds. The real question for me is my alt, I'm leaning towards Dual Blades as they've also been massively improved in Wilds, plus they're just so flashy and cool, the spin attack when you pop a wound is so satisfying. DB were actually what got me into Monster Hunter back on the 3DS, every other weapon felt "clunky" and I was going to drop it but when I discovered DB it felt more like what I was used to in other games, so DB are the reason I have 1000s of hours into the series all these years later, but I haven't mained or alted them since.

The thing is, the high resolution pack doesn't seem to be available until the game is formally out, and that's going to force another 75GB download. If it's like World, you can't play the game until it's done downloading it. It'll be available as 'DLC' from the properties menu on steam.
So I'm just gonna turn the computer on tomorrow morning before work and start downloading the texture pack while I'm away.
Just food for thought and something to consider.

I'm the same ; prefer weapons with better agility/mobility. Longsword, for me, is a happy medium between those attributes and providing good damage output.

I'm off now until Monday and I'm buzzing for this. I'll be up 5am tomorrow morning to get stuck in. Never really played MH games before, only clocked 4 hours in World but this I'm hyped for.

One question, should I play with controller or M+K? I'm a long time PC gamer and am very used to M+K, have had consoles along the line but never really got on with controllers for fps 3rd person games. I take it MH is quite forgiving, no precise aiming required, relatively speaking so thought I'd check, because for example, for Dark Souls games, everyone recommends controller.

I've always played MH games via controller ( or on a handheld console eg. 3DS ). You do need to be quite precise with controls and combos, but not in a "button mashing" way ... if that makes sense. It's all about positioning, learning monster attacks/movement patterns and knowing when to strike. Not saying it can't be played with M & K ; one benefit of that method will be having all the shortcut keys for the menus etc. MH games have a lot of overlapping systems, crafting, customisation etc.

First off the game is a nightmare to setup mouse and keyboard unless you like the default settings but they are always really bad in MH games.
I mainly played light and heavy bowguns after flirting with all the other weapons in MH World and for high level content especially as a solo player you simply have to hit your shots exactly as intended so i set up for mouse and keyboard and it was night and day difference.
Faor chilled sessions or multiplayer i just plugged in controller.

But if your going to play many weapons i would suggest controller for sure as the melee combat is just more suited to controller, maybe then if you stick to the game and gravitate to ranged weapons and do high level content then you can setup mouse and KB.

Thats not to say controller cant do it all it can but as a solo player in the really high tier stuff i just had to hit my shots :)

i tried to use a ds4 in the demo there were a few buttons i had to reconfigure but worlds had a profile so im sure someone will put one up. going in with dual blades and long sword but i gave the switch axe a whirl in the beta and it was pretty good.

What sort of VRAM do you recon GPU's will need for the Hi-Res Textures? Probably not worth the download for me at 1080p on a 4070.

900,868 playing on steam on a Friday morning is pretty insane but mixed reviews on steam.

Huge threads on steam and reddit about crashing and performance issues.

I don't think I'm even going to try and run this until I upgrade my GPU... or my whole system.
My 3070 would probably cry if I try play this on a 49" UW screen.

how is everyone getting on! Post your hunters!!
