*** Monster Hunter: Wilds Thread ***

I got 194 FPS at those daft settings on a 5700X3D + 7900 XT. Someone else got 210 FPS on a 5800X3D + 7900 XTX.

Seems both of us had massive VRAM usage (mine 18 GB, his 20 GB). Sounds like NVidia users aren't seeing crazy VRAM usage I think? Suggests the November drivers us RDNA3'rs are on are janky at best for this benchmark. I assume the 9070 XT benchmark leaker will surely have a more up to date AMD driver.

Really can't infer anything about the 9070 XT from this leak in my opinion.

AMD don't have as good memory/vram management as nvidia so amd will always use more vram in games.

Is it worth getting and playing through the last game first would you guys say or should I just play the new game Never played the series so I would be interested in your thoughts.
I'd play World first, it's a full game that is still fantastic, has aged well and is regularly on a huge sale for a couple quid. Wilds however will launch with far less content, questionable performance/optimisation and is 60 quid.

The price alone is a great reason to play World if you're not convinced you will enjoy MH gameplay.

100% agree with this. MH can be offputting to newcomers - controls/combat are intentionally clunky and difficult to master, plus there is a large grind involved gathering materials to craft better equipment. If the gameplay clicks with you then you'll possibly get 100's of hours out of the game. But it's not for everyone. MH World ( or MH Rise ) would be a great way to test the waters, so to speak, for minimal investment financially.

Yeh I have seen it up for a good price with the expansion too. Thanks for getting back to me :)

Sounds good to me, I'll pickup the last game and try it first :)

I would 100% jump into Wilds. You're never going to finish World or Rise before Wilds hits, and Monster Hunter games are extremely fun at release when the community is at its largest, and everyone is learning and discovering together.

Definitely this! I'm on the slower side of things. Currently profile play time is about 65 hours in and I'm literally 1 fight away from the end credits of World. Can't wait to start Iceborne.

I agree, I don't think there's much point starting Worlds if your intention is to get started in the series. It's a huge grind of a game - you're talking like 20-30 hours minimum for the basics - try all the weapons, settle on one/some, craft half decent gear (which is still low/mid tier in the grand scheme of things), dabble in the more complex mechanics like breaking monster parts and trapping them; you might as well just get used to all that in the latest game IMO.

The most important question : what is everyone choosing as their main weapon ?

Still undecided, but I think I'll be going with longsword and bow as secondary.

Greatsword, Bow, Pocket horn and maybe longsword but I'm tempted to save LS (which is my actual main) until second play through when my gpu arrives (I'll be playing on ps5 until then).

I'm a bit stuck in my ways - I played Greatsword, Longsword and Hammer back in MHFU. I tend to prefer high raw damage melee weapons, and those weapons are straightforward when it comes to slicing tails or breaking parts, so I'll probably stick to those. If I had to choose just one, then GS.

I had a good amount of fun in MH World with the Longsword, but I think I'm likely going to be sticking with my original main weapon of Switch Axe.
Undecided on my secondary, I'm temted to make it the Gunlance as I've never properly used one.

I have about 1k hours in world, absolutely loved the guiding lands endgame.
Oddly playing the betas i just didnt get into it.
I mostly played Bowguns,Hammer and Gunlance in MH World.
I found with the beta just like in wilds trying to configure keybinds for mouse and KB is a nightmare [i use mouse and KB for bowgun for much better aiming].
I will more than likely buy the game but graphically it hasnt changed much to be fair and runs poorly.

If I play probably hammer or GS, I've used hammer since 4U and always liked it, I'm half tempted to give lance or gunlance a try tho

I really like the Great Sword. I did start out with the Long Sword when I played World on the PS4, as it was easier to use and much more agile. On PC I have solely used GS and once you get past the stage of swinging for everything and thinking of your next attack, it becomes pretty satisfying to use.

I started playing the Great Sword in the early days of the series and liked the fewer but more powerful hits. There have been so many games with a lot of changes to the combat mechanics over the years. I like to mix it up and go through all of the weapons. I used the Gunlance a lot in Rise so maybe the I'll switch to the regular Lance to begin with and one of the gun types as a secondary.

I noticed the preload is up on Steam. I haven't preloaded a game in a while, does it still take forever to unpack a new game? I was about to click preload but might just wait til it's out then download it.
