*** Monster Hunter: Wilds Thread ***

Performance is that bad that digital foundry cannot do optimized settings, haha is that a first for any game?
Capcom really cannot do smooth performance.

Not to mention the bucket load of technical issues even getting the game running according to steam reviews and many forums.
I already had too many games im invested into but this has certainly convinced me to wait, MHWorld is up there with my most played games on steam so years on to see a game that looks no better and performs worse is nothing short of a disgrace.

I'll be honest I've only run into one graphical glitch which occurred during the intro where the desert textures were popping out of the sand. But apart from that I haven't really had any other issues. Performance has been ok and quite in line with what I got from the benchmark so it's been okay for me so far. Admittedly though I am still very early in the game as I'm waiting for some of my friends to come on line tonight to play together.

Hopefully though Capcom get a patch out soon to fix issues that people seem to be reporting.

how is everyone getting on! Post your hunters!!

Very poor textures. Wonder if he has the 4K texture pack installed ? Just finished watching the Digital Foundry PC review .... not good ; will give the game a crack later this evening, but try not to go beyond 2 hrs so I reserve the right to refund if performance is terrible.

Textures and performance are the least of my complaints. What I can't stand is how cringe the dialogue is, how you spend half of the time in the game auto riding a chicken. The fights themselves are ok but even as a novice, snooze fest.

Yeah I didn't have the texture pack installed I didn't even know there was one until later on. :notlikethis:

I did manage to find some series of settings which boosted my performance.. And when I say that I just mean made it more consistent and at least in my case completely ridded me of some of the stuttering I was experiencing and seems to have eliminated graphical glitches at least for me.

suggested settings to turn down more if need be:

Shadow Quality
Shadow Distance
Distant Shadow Quality
Contact Shadows
Volumetric Fog
Mesh quality (There's very little difference between high and highest)

Yes frame gen is on, But if I'm being completely honest I don't see any really noticeable image quality issues with it turned on vs it being turned off during actual gameplay. But the smoothness of the gameplay is definitely noticeable and any minor visual artefacts which I haven't really noticed yet when I'm playing are worth putting up with for the better experience. Obviously I'd prefer to run it without but I think we all know that this game isn't exactly screaming optimisation in it's current state.

But as noted by DF in their tech analysis of the PC version I definitely wouldn't run frame gen if your base fps is below 60 at whatever settings you're playing at. I really do hope that some optimization patches are in the pipeline and get to us sooner rather than later.

Also I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issues in the desert/Grasslands area where sometimes the lighting is massively overexposed during daytime? And is anyone else playing in HDR? There are moments where I think it looks really nice and then others, where it looks God awful...

Nope. Never played any of these games.
If you like endgame grind games , killing monsters to get parts to craft a huge amount of gear ans weapons to then create your builds to go out and do the same at ever increasing difficulty and materials for crafting rinse repeat.
I havent played full game yet but have 1600 hours in MH WOrld and about 500 in MH RIse and played the betas for MH Wilds.

Combat is incredible in these games while your always progressing.
Do not buy if your only seeking a story driven campaign, thats not what its intention is.
Its all about endgame really and here it excels with a really great gameplay loop.

I like it, few niggles performance is trash - seems like I'm just brute forcing by with the 9800x3d / 5070ti

and the coop system is awful so far, hopefully it's due to low rank / story hand holding.

but standing next to the quest mob and then joining a link with wlthr wife, it ends the "joiner" alllll the way back to camp.

Performance is great for me with a 7800x3d and rtx4090.
Played for about 10 hours so far trying out all the weapons and doing a few story missions.
I've played world for 400 hrs so the game is really easy so far, hopefully it gets a lot harder later on.
The dialog is pretty bad, it's like it's being read from a script with big pauses between lines.
It also feels dumbed down compared to world, I've never played rise so maybe it's like that.
I think i prefer the look of world too but it's early days yet so maybe the other areas are better.

Loaded it up for the first time tonight and even with tweaking settings to low, after installing the high res texture pack it still ran like garbage. I couldn't maintain 60fps at all, even when knocking my screen resolution down from 4K to 1440p (which looked terrible btw).

Something is definitely off with performance and textures currently, so I hope they fix it.

Also, as a total noob the player onboarding isn't great.
