more PC garbage

But the women aren't professional footballers. They're part time players. They do all those things that are described. How is telling the truth sexist?

Except we aren't talking about their careers, are we? We are talking about them only existing to support men. And has been pointed out, the reason why reversing the phrase is so silly is that no-one would ever suggest that a man go back to supporting his wife unless they were being sarcastic.

Of course it was sexist. The worrying bit is how many people can't see it.

Have you read it? Nowhere does it mention supporting men. It says going back to being mothers, partners and daughters.
Last time I checked one of them at least is homosexual. So her partner isn't a man. Mothers can have daughters. Daughters certainly have mothers.

I think twitter should be outlawed it's just an excuse for the PC brigade to get annoyed about something.

I see stuff on facebook all the time but as soon as it's tweeted it's front page in the papers. I don't get why twitter is patrolled more than any other social media.

Even the police arrest people based on tweets but not facebook posts or forum posts.

To be honest it's nothing to get annoyed about.

Why do women only play 3 sets at Wimbledon and men play 5 but they have the same prize money. I think that they should add a man vs woman singles match at 5 sets. I still think the williams sisters could win it.

I have no problem with women world cup and I hope it continues to be more popular. I don't think moaning about comments people make helps that cause.

Comment is not sexist at all. I was just reading the article and thought really? What's all the fuss about?

Although it's nearly as bad as the article I read that the team should be thought of as 'legends'...for finishing 3rd? Yea ok.

They do though. The sensitive generation. How on earth do they survive in the workplace?

You're missing the point.

In order to be a 'daughter' or a 'partner' you have to be subordinates of another person - In this case (mostly) men. The tweet is sexist because it only shows them in this light. If it said "go back to their day jobs as recruitment mangers" or whatever then there would be no issue.

That's an interesting point that I didn't see until now. However I only see one of those mentioned as "subordinate", the other two are equal and superior. I do acknowledge that "partner" is perceived as subordinate for women in relationships with men, but I don't think we'll drop that instance of privilege unless we start using the word "partner" as defined..

I think the tweet is actually ok, but it was pretty poorly placed, controversy could have been predicted.

I see what you mean. I personally think 'daughter' can still be perceived as a subordinate though. Especially in this context as it was the only thing that that the tweet defined the footballers as besides mothers and partners.

I completely agree that the tweet was poorly placed. I'm glad it caused a stir and has been removed.

A stupid obviously sexist tweet. That people don't recognise it as being so is also pretty indicative of how backwards some people still are.

Since when are daughters or partners subordinate?! Or mothers for that matter?
We have an entire day devoted to mothers. Is that sexist?
