Most arrogant profession?

Any shop assistant in any shop that has this attitude with me just gets laughed at and treated like crap. It doesn't matter where they work, they're still a shop assistant.

If they're nice, then i'll be nice back, it's the way the world goes round.

I take it you've never had the unfortunate pleasure of subsidising an education with shop work? If so, you'd realise that dependant on location or clientele you'll get some of the most pompous and arrogant customers trying to give you the what for and why is and continually trying to pull the wool over your eyes. As an educated and bright person knowing the ins and outs of my business trying to take it on the chin day after day is difficult. Mostly those big, tight arsed witches that think they can through their weight around a fashion store.

Teachers.

Not all, but a large portion think they are something special.

Only the males. Seriously, university teaching courses prep them for arrogance. There's usually about 10 males to 100 females on BAEds so even the ugly ones get ladies throwing themselves at them. Plus, they all seem to want to fast track to headship.

Secretary of State for defence

because they think they can get away with letting their homosexual lovers run free in the MoD with no repercussions

Government ministers definitely - first hand experience on more than one occasion.
Foxxy doesn't necessarily fall under the category of arrogant. He's actually quite down to earth. His closet homo/bum chum mate is just an unfortunate urine take of the rules.

The only people frequently worse than the ministers are the actual PA's to those ministers. To describe them as arrogant is an understatement!

We have a problem here, a lot of jobs have been mentioned. Can we safely say eventually every job will be mentioned just about.

I'm looking for consensus, if it exists. Or should we close the thread because not everyone feels the same?

Funny thing is, doctors have never struck me as particularly arrogant.

Accountants are just boring so have no right to be arrogant :p. It's lawyers all the way for me, they have it drummed into them at law school.

Another vote for doctor's receptionists. My favourite was one in a hospital in Salford. I'd gone in with a broken finger. I had managed to break it such that the finger nail was lying against the back of hand (i.e. snapped back completely the wrong way). I get to hospital where you have to go to a receptionist to "book in" (remember this was 15 years ago. Why a receptionist was tasked with this is anyone's guess). I say "Hi. I've broken my finger". The receptionist looks at me like as if I was make entirely of excrement and in the most arrogant voice I have heard to date, says "I'll{/B] be the judge of that." Rather taken aback but amused, I showed her my finger; flopping backwards with the tendons and bloody flesh clearly on display. She went very white and pointed me to the A&E. I laughed (which was quite a feat because my hand hurt like hell). :D

Not the case at all, I've had several low end jobs in the early stages of my career (by that I mean tech support, not burger king). However, If I'm shopping in a high end store, whether that be clothes, electronics etc. and the shop assistant feels that I'm not worthy of buying their products for whatever reason and are particularly arsey and offhand with me, then I'm not particularly friendly in return. If they're helpful and friendly, then I'll thank them profusely and wish them a great day.

I'm not suggest I'd be a massive **** like some people are, I just resent the fact that some people feel that they are higher than thou when selling items that they wouldn't be in the position to buy themselves.

I find many architects are laughably arrogant. There is a breed of architect who just wants to create ridiculous monuments to themselves. I have worked with architects for years and have only dealt with a handful that are not jumped up egotists with delusions of adequacy.

Hurrah, an edifice complex. Nothing screams “look at me” quite like a huge monument to yourself.

Estate agents, without a doubt. Have been looking at houses a lot recently (and finally applied for one over the weekend :D ), and I've had to put several of them in their place recently, including the one who's selling my house in weymouth.

They are, in general, self important dicks.

And, then do you find that the smart engineers who are charged with engineering the project, and do a fantastic job are modest and happy to receive the smallest of recognition for their efforts?

That's what I observe, on the whole, in my industry - there are only a couple of engineers who I didn't like.

Arts vs. intelligence, methinks ;)

Prestige car salesmen purely for this story about my friends dad:

He is a VERY well off man, when I say well off I mean owns hotels and restaurants around Europe, is a business partner with Marco Pierre White, and so on. Anyway, looking at him half the time he dressed pretty normally and sometimes a bit scruffy so you wouldn't always think he was well off. So on this day he went out to buy a new car, at the time it was the brand new Bentley Continental GT convertible as a weekend car for him and his wife. He goes to a Bentley dealer and wanders around for a while until one of the salesmen comes over and politely asks him to leave! Ridiculous I know. Anyway, later that day he pulls up to that same show room smartly dressed in his £130,000+ car, finds the salesman who asked him to leave, tells him about how much he loves the car, thanks the salesman for his 'help' and on a final note ends with something along the lines of "it's a shame you missed out on this commission though."
:D :D :D

Yea I bet he did. Love the part where the brand new car he bought elsewhere was in stock with the deal completed that same day. Usually the prestige places are not able to let you take a used car same day let alone a factory order.

Making stuff up for the lose?

Lawyers and Judges aren't too bad.

It's the odd one or two who make a bad name for the others, but some of my lawyer friends couldn't do enough for me and they're always there to help me out!

Solicitors on the other hand...

Environmentalists. I am one. I can categorically say that what I do is more worthy than anything anyone else does* :D

*except doctors etc.
