Most Talented Male Singer

Most talented male singer.. for me, I'd say Ray Charles and Robert Cray. Have to agree that Freddie Mercury was an outstanding entertainer, though (to me) not as talented a singer as the RC's, or others.

This may surprise some, but for those who've heard the hundreds of Eric Clapton live gigs in the past few years, he's turned into an outstanding vocalist!

Having just seen them live:

James Mercer

You think his voice is good on record? It really is that good in concert, I could listen to him forever.

Really? I saw them on friday night :D

Agreed, awesome voice. And he looks like Kevin Spacey.

mike patton for so many different styles but i'll give another vote for sebastian bach, has such an amazing range and adds a lot to the songs from just the original lyrics

Seems that quite a few agree with me on the point of Freddie Mercury and Queen - it was actually listening to Barcelona that prompted this thread.

On the point of Robbie Williams - saw him at Glastonbury in 98 (might be 97 or 99) I think and he was one of the best acts that whole weekend. Reminds me of Freddies ability to get the crowd worked up.

One final point on Queen though - when looking at concert videos I cannot think of any other act who has the whole crowd involved quite so much. Yes a lot of bands get the first so many rows involved. But Queen had the stadium floor AND all the seating areas responding and getting involved.

Certainly not Axl Rose - but it never seemd to stop him ;)

Davey Havoc from AFI has an interesting voice.

The singer and guitarist from system of a down for the harmonies on many of their songs.

I'm not generally too bothered about the perfection of a singers voice. It's the whole musical package I look for and, anyways, I'm not into namby-pamby music like that! :)

I saw them last Wednesday! :D Such a good band and a great atmosphere. And yes he does look like Kevin Spacey! The keyboard/guitar/bassist guy reminded me a lot of Jack Black too, maybe that was just me :p Did a Madonna cover and Motorhead too. Really great gig :)

I always thought Bono had a great voice, especially from the 80's stuff.

Gary Cherone ex of Extreme and Van-Halen to, and as much as i hate to say it, John Bon Jovi can hold a tune as well

Freddy Mercury was good, but i certainly wouldnt rate him as excellent

How about.....

Wait for it....

Adam Sandler (Yes the same Adam Sandler of Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Waterboy etc etc fame).

Listen to some of his CD's and he has a amazing vocal range.

Agreed. On his live preformances he was very similar to freddie, you could see and hear the influence. Gary had a fantastic voice, actually all the guys in extreme did! Nunos singing is pretty cool on his new stuff too.

he has got a brilliant voice. only need to watch the wedding singer to see that. you can tell he's a good singer, because even when he's pretending to sound crap, it still sounds good!! :)

Taking opera out of the equation, the best male vocalists are:

Freddie Mercury
Tom Jones
Tony Christie
Nat King Cole
Robert Plant
Meat Loaf
Elvis

Ronnie James Dio.

John Garcia(Kyuss,sloburn,Unida)

Ian Astbury.

Geoff Tate(Queensryche)

Tom Jones.

Steve Grimmet(Grim Reaper)

Ian Gillan

Don Henley

ive changed my mind, definately jeff buckley.

just listening through "grace" whilst i'm working

hallelujah came on and i just stopped working and had that prickly sensation and came up in goosebumps all over. its such a beautiful song and his voice through it is immense!

infact i think that song is one of 3 that break me down to almost the point of tears.
