Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

thanks guys yeah looks to be my next phone :)

oh forgot if I got the 8gig version how much space do I have left over to fill it with my stuff?

thanks that is great news to hear with 5gig free, I have gone with the tesco deal and used TDX-HQ9T code for first time buyers. Bit cheeky of them to bump price to £104 but get it for under 99 quid and collect at my local metro store. I will get that fleabay 2 quid code to unlock also so thx for that.

I think £140 for the 16gig was sweet but for 99 quid its more of a fone fone if it dies or gets lost its not the end of the world like and seems this is the fone to get currently.

Do you guys think its a good ideal to get screen protector and case or is it durable enough?

Also shall I just update to kit kat straight away ? If yes which is best way to do so a link would be great thanks

Do you guys think its best to upgrade to kit kat then ?

I heard some people not happy with the upgrade....some mention of the clicking noise being changed when typing and other features changed and missing which were handy....

thanks will update to kitkat soon, would appear every 5 seconds of using the moto g it needs an google account otherwise nothing seems to work ?

I always worry a little about having a google account and google "tracking" me and knowing every thing about me and where I am going, perhaps paranoia lol

think ill register my device but under some anonymous user details...

nice never even heard of that feature but will do.

they should develop an app called paranoid button and just disable all those tracking features guess phone would be unusable then lol

I can't recommend that people install xposed framework and gravity box enough... The extra features and moda you can do to your phone is amazing.. Here is a few:

Adjust DPI for apps, here is chrome running with as you can see you now have tabs etc....

Expanded desktop (full screen)

Added power menu options and record screen!

Multiple extra options from the swipe down menu

Gravity box also pretty much allows you to modify most parts of the phone.. Nav bar (make smaller change colour of buttona etc, status bar..display etc etc so many options..

I would say you should probably sell up and buy a Nokia 3310... :) Lots of information will be passed on about you by all sorts of apps you install.

do you really think google use your details specifically?

you do know they collate stats on like 1 billion devices (pc's running chrome, chromebooks, smartphones, tablets, etc)?

they don't target specific people and analyse everything that they do they collect data from everyone then most likely use it in charts to see what the most common things are so they know where to focus, etc.

even if you were doing something dodgy, i doubt google would actually flag you as such, that's how small the invasion is of your privacy i doubt they even collate that much info either tbh otherwise it would flag up on your data, etc.

they collect these stats to see how to further improve their services or to improve how your device runs (like google now constantly updating you).

your worrying about something that isn't a problem, you sound like a conspiracy nutjob tbh.

Well I think its a bit too privacy invading, for example on registering a new google account they want your full name and then mobile number

I googled it and many folk out there are not happy google take this information from you as opposed to when you never had to do this. The point is you should have that option to enter it or not and not be restricted.

You yourself said 'then most likely' so even you can't be sure what google does with your data :D

But If you believe your data is safe with google then you will be just fine,
I personally don't believe any data is safe, it was only last year I heard dustbins in Central London were monitoring and tracking peoples phones. Perhaps I miss the old days when a dust bin was just a rubbish bin and they did not scan your pockets while killing your sperm :D

For now I will continue to use a bit of anonymity where I can because I feel privacy is important.

I have the updated version of the Nokia 3310 in front of me, it maybe ancient and 10 years but I bet you its still working even after my moto g dies !

That is fine about apps, I found a nice website giving some tips on setting up google accounts and getting things authorised and activated without giving up too much info away, they can send that info to mr anonymous ;)

I love the moto G so far am getting use to texting with one hand using the thumb but not sure if that is the best way?

lol @ bins scanning peoples phones.

seriously there is nothing to worry about with official apps or phones accessing or sending data.

i take it you shred all your mail before putting it in the bin? etc

there's no risk to putting in your data i can pretty much guarantee that so long as you don't install dodgy apps or open any stupid files up on your phone.

do you really think they are employing 1 billion people to track every device and it's user who uses google on the planet? because that's how many people it would take to do so on such a personal level. it's just collated data for stats. your personal info would never be shared in such things.
