Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

When you go on holiday for a weekend, do you pack your entire wardrobe? :)

No but my gf does, she often buys more clothes and alwsys buys more shoes at the destination too, I could destroy her life by buying her a 3d printer and casually mentioning " you can make shoes with this" before I leave the room.

More silly questions:

Any idea how to get that kitkat update option back? I use to get it all the time when switching on and off, then when I want it its vanished !

When I got to settings>about phone>system updates it says wifi only to upgrade?

Seems forced to be on wifi to update only.. and got no wifi, maybe gone to wrong option...

There is a setting on the Play store to allow updates over data.

Mate's just bought a Moto G, and coming from a Galaxy S3 he's used for the last couple of years, he can't get used to the back and menu buttons being the opposite way round!

As they're not physical buttons, is there an app or launcher that can swap them over? Cheers.

Ah yes, I know what he means. S3 > Moto G, and it's very weird not having a physical home button and the back/menu is the other way round.
Well, actually, there ISN'T a menu/options button - just home, back and running apps.

He'll get used to it!

It seems that is not a good idea to run the battery completely down on this phone. I've done this a couple of times, i.e. it goes to zero and the phone shuts off. It is then hit and miss to get it charged up again. Plugged it into my PC a few hours ago, I got the white screen with the 0% symbol, but the several hours later, it hasn't charged at all. Two or three tries later it finally charges, although now I've reverted to my Nokia mains charger. That works first time.

It reduces the life of the battery to drain it fully so it's not a good idea anyway.

Well ive just picked one up for the wife, and have to say im impressed!

Just looking now for covers and cases etc.

any tips or tricks to know about?

It is an amazing phone. And at the price, an absolute steal. I'll try not to let the battery run completely down again....

It prompts to update to kitkat when you turn it on. You should do that, as it's ridiculously nippy after!

After the horror of my N5 going into a boot loop and going through the hassle and trauma of flashing the stock ROM and re rooting again, I need a backup phone and will definitely be looking to pick up the Moto G should things go wrong again.

My Sis has one and it's an awesome phone for the price.

Yet another reason why I love this phone.

That's with a fair amount of general usage - Facebook a lot, auto checking gmail and exchange email, twitter, instagram, reddit, texts and calls.

My S3 would be empty by now.

My Moto G probably would be empty too. Most of my battery usage is shown to be Android system and Android OS. Totally different profile from your screenshot. When I first got the phone, the battery life was incredible, now it is not good at all.

Why do you think that is? Just a quickly degrading battery or filling up cache with junk?
