Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

The audio is quite loud, it gets a bit tinny as it goes into higher levels, much louder and better than my old nexus 4 speaker though, I use decent in ear buds though mainly.

Good to hear, in fact my question was said a bit wrong I was meant to say how is the audio quality once headphones plugged in.

I read a few moto g reviews saying audio was quite poor against the iphones(even 3/4) but perhaps this was in relation to the speaker of the phone and not the buds?

Wishful thinking perhaps !

Would have been awesome if someone compared an iphone or Samsung s3-5 with same ear phones and an moto g and compared mp3 playback quality.

I have the HTC One earbuds and use them on the Moto G and with the Motorola sound effects for Bass etc mp3's sound amazing, very good bass and clear mids and highs, I rate the sound quality very good.

The speaker is a lot better than most for this price range, as I say it's quite loud and better than the nexus 4 I had before, and galaxy s3.

Just in case anyone else is wondering someone over @ xda forums informed me a few work arounds to getting kitkat installed.

Its called Reverse Tether, allows you to use a usb cable to get your pcs internet on the moto g.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.littlelan.ReverseTether.Trial&hl=en

And if that dont work, connectify software found here: http://www.connectify.me/

If you buy a cheap wifi dongle for few quid off flebay then try that Connectify should give you wifi from you laptop or pc.

long route is full on installation of kit kat found here:
http://androidromupdate.com/2014/01/12/install-moto-g-4-4-2-kitkat-ota-update-firmware-europe/

But id advise connectify or reverse tether which gives you a wifi type connection just over usb cable.

Am really surprised no decent PC software which allowed internet access or direct access to fully installing/upgrading the android device, but guess its all google play/google account which is online and better and synced so better in some ways:)

I just rooted and installed the US version of KitKat as it wasn't available for me at the time.
I just followed the instructions on modaco to change from tesco to retail (4.3)... the update came through over the air (well wifi).

No rooting or anything, I'd assume you can do the same with the retail 4.4.2 which is available now too seeing as the 'script' from modaco just 'load/transfer/ran' the rom files onto the phone from safeboot.

Yeah If I change back now then I will get it, no need to now tho there is no difference in the US version, infact I think there is as mine does not show the carrier name on the top left anymore.. I always root my phones anyway.

I might install this ROM as it looks pretty good and has Active Display from the Moto X, and multi window.

Anybody recommend a decent screen protector for the Moto G ?

All the ones I've found are about 0.5mm to large & sit on the Moto G body :(

lol :)

Maybe but then I like the simplicity! and that it syncs so the Ipad seamless and use it for business quite a bit.

Which recovery are you using? I'm putting off flashing until twrp/cwm sort out mount issue on 1032 model... No way am I not having a nandroid!

"iZKA® - Motorola Moto G Screen Protector Cover Guard (Pack of 10) Includes Micro Fibre Cleaning Cloth & Application Card - iZKA Lifetime Warranty " on Amazon. My missus has had the same one on her phone since she got it for Christmas.

£100! Wow, that is a bargain :)

The £100 from Vodafone for the 8Gb model looks pretty good! Will that be locked to Vodafone? If so, will it be as easy to unlock as the ones from Tesco?

I also went into 'Carphone Warehouse' today to see what they had. They told me they don't stock the Moto G as they had the 16GB version but there was a software problem with it so they stopped stocking it. I appreciate that that's probably the salesperson lying to stop me going somewhere else for a Moto G, but is anybody aware of a software issue with the 16GB version?

Please, PLEASE, stop writing 'Vodaphone'; it's Vodafone.

So after that slight diversion, has anyone got any thoughts on the above?

the only 'software bug' that I'm aware of on the moto g (not just the 16gb) was the installing apk files issue, this could be resolved via factory reset in most cases...
