I imagine the insurance required for that stunt would be immense, if not, impossible. So wouldn't be at all surprised if it was fixed (literally) :p

Seems that Hulkenberg's out of luck. The other seats all look to be taken or have multiple funded drivers in pursuit of them.

Maldonado at Lotus would be very sad indeed. How much does PDVSA sponsorship compare to 2nd or 3rd in the WCC? :(

$50 million vs maybe $10 million per WCC position.

I kind of wonder if there's something else with Hulkenberg. If he's that good why don't people take him up? Is he a pain to work with? Is his management difficult? It can't just be his height or wage demands.

Seems that Hulkenberg's last chance is with Ferrari (assuming their protege Bianchi joins Force India). The other seats all look to be taken or have multiple funded drivers in pursuit of them.

Bianchi is confirmed at Marussia for 2014

From memory, there are seats availble at:

Caterham - 1 - Pic confirmed
Williams - 2
Marussia - 1 - Bianchi confirmed
Sauber - 1- Sirotkin confirmed
Force India - 2
Fauxtus - 2
McLaren - 1 - Button not quite confirmed yet, but deal is believed to be done.

I thought Grosjean was confirmed at Lotus? Theres certainly no talk about him leaving, and plenty of talk about him leading the team.

one major point that seems to elude all the rumours is that Maldonado is w/ PDVSA and Grosjean w/ Lotus.

no way you would have 2 petrol companies sponsoring 1 team.

most will agree that Grosjean is a shoe in for next year at Lotus. I think Maldonado at Lotus is BS, unless Lotus would take him without PDVSA (which still has a 2 year contract w/ Williams); but why would they choose him over Hulk?

I think it's a combination of the height/weight and lack of funding. I believe he has minimal funding (Dekra?), which causes problems. He was dropped from Williams for Maldonado and his PDVSA backing; he's now potentially going to lose out to Maldonado again due to PDVSA backing. Boullier has pretty much said if they get the investment from Quantum(?), it's Nico's job. The only time it didn't come down to sponsorship was Ferrari, where they decided to pick Kimi instead.

Having 2 oil companies sponsoring the same team isn't going to block them having Grosjean and Maldonado. Plus, £30m can be very persuasive.

Pdvsa still has 2 years on its contract with williams. So if maldonado leaves, it isnt with that 30m

If maldonado goes anywhere it will be mclaren or force india or sauber (if they come to realize sirotkin doesnt cut it)
