Perez/Magnussen switch at McLaren rumoured to be a done deal already...

Joe Saward said:
Sergio Perez will leave McLaren at the end of the current season, after just one year with the Woking team. The news has yet to be confirmed by McLaren, but it appears that the team chose not to take up its option for the Mexican to continue in 2014.

The McLaren has not been a very good car this year, but the 23-year-old Mexican has seemed a little overwhelmed on occasion. He has collected only 35 points compared to Jenson Button’s 60. In qualifying Button has been ahead on nine occasions, Perez eight times and it is a widely-held belief that Button is not a great qualifier.

Perez’s biggest problem, however, has been that the people in Woking believe that they have a real ace up their sleeve in the person of Kevin Magnussen, who is understood to have done much better in the McLaren simulator than Perez. This year the 21-year-old Dane has shown both pace and maturity in the Renault 3.5 World Series and cantered to the title. It will still be a big step for him to race for McLaren, particularly at a time when the cars are changing significantly, but it seems that McLaren is sufficiently confident that Kevin will be able to take the pressure and flourish. He will then be a much stronger driver in 2015 when McLaren starts its new relationship with Honda.

I hope so,
That article a little rubbish in. So much as "particularly at a time the cars are changing"
This is a good thing for him. In car feel, set up etc. he will be at the same level as everyone else. Its by far the best season to bring a rookie in.

Also if it is done, seems to confirm they are looking at 2015 for the real turn around. Although they should be much better next year regardless. But it always takes time to change a team around.

Just had a quick hello with Felipe, seems like a nice chap. :)

Where has he actually been? Seems surprising for Ferrari to let him anywhere near Williams before the end of his contract, so I assume he's just been in some public areas rather than behind any closed doors?

Demo run in an old car apparently.

So if McLaren do get Alonso for 2015, they have to choose between Button and Magnussen for the other seat. Should they decide that Magnussen is more of a prospect, being nearer the beginning of his career than Button, what chance of a straight swap between Alonso and Button? :p Having driven for Williams and McLaren, I reckon Button might quite like a few seasons at Ferrari.

They could go after Hamilton in 2015 if merc don't deliver next season.
