Agreed that the 12 looks much better. I really like the West era but I do not like the livery.

Saying that, MP4-4 obviously and I have a real weakness for the max aero era. MP4-23 its stunning in the flesh, such detail.

What about Button then who was at his first race without his dad, everyone wearing pink, imagine him up there. Not to mentioned the fact that it would have helped McLaren greatly to getting a title sponsor.
The whole thing stinks.

For John Button's sake, this.

Some of the numbers are totally unreal in that article.

~£2m a season for the TV rights (admittedly bought for 100 years) - Im sure they will make their money back in well under a decade

So they want 18" wheels and Active suspension for 2017. Haven't we been here before?

round and round and around FIA go, were they end up nobody knows!

The truly hilarious bit is that they're talking about bringing in active suspension to cut costs. Active suspension was banned after '93....on the grounds of cost.

A round of applause, ladies and gentlemen, for the governing body of the alleged pinnacle of motorsport.

*slow clap*

In 93 it was new, computing power was expensive.
Now the controlling chip would probably cost a few pennies
Times and prices change.

Although can't see why they would want it back.

The hardware may be cheap, but paying for the creation, improvement and testing of the controlling software will definitely not be cheap.

It's like a modern high end mobile phone. The parts cost maybe ~£50. The other £500 is to cover the R&D.

I reckon they've just got a giant "wheel of fortune", to pick the features.

Active suspennsion is mature and well understood. The software isn't going to cost much qt all. Its just the setting up which is number entering, which also doesn't cost.

Its a bit silly trying to compare costs now compared to two decades ago.

Again why they would want it though, it would be detrimental. More perfect cornering, less mistakes, means less overtaking and less about to lose it.

Because this is supposed to be Formula One! You know, pinnacle of racing technology, fastest cars on the planet, all that jazz? :p

All that nonsense you mean, by people who don't understand the sport.

Could drivers even cope with the geforce, modern aero and active suspension, would be one hell off a cornering speed. Also would mean less breaking :(.

*sigh*

Cornering speeds are only going to rise as high as tyre technology allows them to. It's a one-tyre formula (at least it is right now). Pretty easy to keep a lid on cornering speeds.

Fixed that for you. ;)

And re-corrected it to the correct year. ;) Fitted to the Lotus 92. :D

Don't worry though, pretty much everyone gets it wrong.

They still are. The cars just can't be too fast for the circuits available, hence the strict regulations and aero reductions again for this year.

What next, bringing back skirts?

Last time I checked, F1 cars were still fitted with brakes. Drivers don't have to go flat-out. Some will choose to go a bit quicker than the rest, and will win races. Others will choose to go a bit slower, and win races on the days when those guys going quicker dump their cars into the kitty litter.

And yeah - bring back ground effect. Combine it with active ride to keep the cars low to the track and stuck down. You'll wipe out the problems with following another car at a stroke!
