Anyone going to WEC at Silverstone this weekend? I'm tempted to go if the weather stays dry. Can't be doing with standing in the rain for 6 hours :)

I went on friday. Was only £10 to get in. You could go in the grandstand on the straights and woodcote and that was it. But you could get right up to the fence everywhere. There was hardly anyone there.

I might do race day next year though as the noise was great and I hadn't seen that class of racing before.

Pics if anyone is interested

Without wishing to over-simplify, it feels like every time there's a big accident in LMP1 a GT3 Ferrari is involved in some way...

In multi class racing it is always the responcibility of the faster car to safely pass the slower car. They have the speed and manoeuvrability advantage to go around the lower classes. The Ferrari took the racing line, which is exactly what they should do so that faster cars can predict their moves.

The problem with ELMS is that the P2 cars aren't that much quicker than the Pro driven GT cars, so have to get creative and forcefull when clearing traffic. A P1 car would have just waited until the straight and driven past.

Good to hear the drivers OK though.

Oh I understand that, it just seems that a GT3 Ferrari is always involved :p.

Sparking Porsche in the pit lane and No1 Audi in the gravel with large front impact. :D

Oh. Porsche lost a wheel and was dragging it's underside on the track. No1 Audi just seemed to lose it.

Alan McNish said that as a faster car they had an idea where they were going to pass and when almost as soon as they get close. I'm sure the Race Director tells the slower cars to run your own race, take your usual lines and it's up to the faster car to pass you. With more downforce and (usually) more power they shouldn't have a problem.

WEC @ Silverstone gets red flagged due to weather with 26 minutes remaining. Race will not restart.

So, congratulations to No8 Toyota of Buemi, Lapierre and Davidson who take the win ahead of the No7 Toyota and the No20 Porsche.

Audi are leaving with 2 damaged monocoques. The impacts didn't look that bad compared to some from previous years where the cars have been rebuilt in the pits during the race. 2 new monocoques need to be built for the next race. I'm wondering if there may be some strengthening appearing around the suspension mounting points later in the season.

Just got back from Silverstone :D

The rain near the end was absolutely ridiculous, so bad in fact I thought I was at Spa-Francorchamps instead - it was THAT wet.

Great results for both Toyota and Porsche. Shame about the Audis, but at least it added to the excitement.

Hopefully most of my panned shots come out well, and some others, even with my rather limited kit.

My mate went to WEC, and bumped in to Adrian Newey.

Had a pic and a chat with him. It's pretty funny because his Facebook photo looks like a "before and after" shot / father and son, thing :D

I wouldn't read too much into it - he's been bossing Goodwood in his Ferrari for a few years now.

Compeeting in your own car is very different to getting pitlane access at a series you don't compete in, with a team your not linked too in any way, with a driver who doesn't drive for you any more...

I imagine Porsche would love to tap into Neweys skills given half the chance.

Or maybe Newey is just using his position to blag free access to watch some racing :)

I REALLY wish Porsche would come into F1, but I just cant see it happening (or VW/Audi either for that matter, and wont even mention Skoda lol)

VAG were very interested in the proposed I4 engine regulations, but dropped interest when it moved to V6s.

with a driver who doesn't drive for you any more...

It most likely has nothing to do with what I am about to say but dont forget that Webber is still supported by Redbull, and rightly so he doesnt drive for the redbull F1 team anymore, he is still a Driver supported in part by redbull. It is possible that Newey is there in some formal capacity.

I am more inclined to believe it is purely social, but we never know.
