Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I am more inclined to believe it is purely social, but we never know.

As much as I'd love to stir a 'Newey to Porsche' rumour, its likely simply this. Newey didn't wan't to go to China, likes WEC, and fancied going and supporting a mate in his first race in a new series. If you can't use your position as F1 Aero God to blag a free ticket to a motorsport event then that can you do :p

Got my birthday present from the other half today (as its my birthday of course). She has only gone a brought me a day out at the Williams Conference Centre to watch the Monaco GP. A whole day at Williams.... I'm gonna flipping love it! Yey for awesome Mrs! :D

Great stuff, will be a fantastic day i'm sure :)

Happy Birthday :)

I wonder how the previous court case earlier this year that Bernie won will effect this trial. A judge had already deemed that he had given a bribe but it was irrelevant to the previous court case.

I reckon that Bernie will have nowhere to hide for this one.

I just cant see this court case ending any other way than a totally meaningless "sentence", a slap on the wrist at best

Does Sparky the Red Bull chap still post here?

If so.. Recognise these?

:p

And if you do know what they are, what the hell are they made of? Its not lead thats for sure.

Confusing me and my friends

Yeah they are ballast weights, a box full of them turned up in our Kart Club building last week.

Interesting, thanks :) They just seem weird to hold, they don't look that heavy to pick up.

Assuming it is f1 related.
Tungsten ballast at a guess.

As you mentioned lead, I assume it's very heave for it's size and tungsten is used as its 1.7x denser than lead.

Tungsten is far more difficult to work than lead, and is therefore more expensive. F1 teams use it as they can afford to and get a benefit from the density advantage. But lower racing series just bolt in lead as its far cheaper.

You get the opposite effect with titanium, where parts look like they should be heavy, but are really light when you pick them up and they feel really odd.

Interesting post from Autosport:

Here's another fun fact; the last time a driver no-scored in the 1st race of the season, and then won the next 3 races of the season was Ayrton Senna in 1989.

Senna lost the WDC to his teammate, despite driving a dominant car, only because of bad luck and misfortunes. Lewis is currently behind Nico in the standings only because of bad luck.

1989 was also Senna's 2nd year and McLaren, and 2nd year with his teammate. 2014 is Hamilton's 2nd year with Mercedes, and 2nd year with his teammate.

Both Senna in 89 and Lewis at the present time are 1 time world champions, looking for their 2nd WDC driving in a dominant car, but against a competitive teammate.

My friend works there, and got me on this before, it was awesome :D

Has anybody been to watch any Blancpain endurance series? Thinking about going to Brands Hatch which is on the weekend of the end of our exams as long as we're not too hungover. :p

There's a full stream of the first race on youtube with some great action and the commentators are great. (Love the Bentley at the beginning)

Although the highlight for me was this bloke, showing Maldonado true racing:

I should also point out that when they changed the drivers in the end, the car was undriveable and retired on the first corner.

I'm thinking about Brands for the Blancpain series. Its a pretty decent field. Although the Brands race is the Sprint series which will have a different set of entrants to the Endurance series in that Monza video. I don't know how many teams are planning to compete in both series?
