Because they are trying desperatly hard to prove that they aren't a faceless soulless grey corporation.

The problem is that trying that hard just increases the image of them being a faceless soulless organisation. Its all forced and unnatural. Maybe if they focused less on trying to "be down with the kids" and more winning they might be more successful.

I think you are taking it far too seriously

Im not disputing its bad, but imo its intentionally bad - and funny (groan) with it.

Of course you know "kids" wouldn't have a clue where / what it was based on - given its a 30 year old film......

Skeeter got it right.
McLaren are grey through and through.
They are run:
by men
with pale skins
with grey hair
with bland English accents
wearing grey suits/clothes
working in a building which is also grey

What they've (McLaren) done is identify this problem and have hired an agency to think up ways of making them more "colourful". The problem is that they are so grey, any added colour, also turns grey. Same goes for Mercedes.

There was also a video early on where they tried to add "spice". The problem is they had middle aged men, in suits...ie. once again, a colourful moment, featured McLaren employees, which turned the featurette...you guessed it - grey.

McLaren dont need to try to be grey. They are grey.

As Skeeter said, I think they should just focus on winning and be proud of being grey.

So, when did you start working at McLaren?

I mean, you seem so sure of what they've done, you must be working for them. Right?

Oh wait. This is another sunama 'I shall project so hard that reality bends and I end up on a moon of Jupiter'. Sorry bud, as you were.

Its not just this though. Tooned was good, but they openly admitted it was an attempt to seem more fun and less corporate.

They have banned their mechanics from wearing shorts because it looks unprofessional, which goes down really well in the 40C+ far east races.

They took months and months to decide a driver line up because its a decision driven by a board of corporate souless suits rather than a racing team interested in actually racing.

And they appear to have took so long to decide on a new livery that all they seem to have come up with is painting the wing mirrors red on the same livery they have been running for the last decade, even though none of the partners that inspired the colours are associated with them any more.

Everything they do just shouts corporate greyness, and eveything they do to try and dispell that is so cringeworthy that it makes them look even worse.

Just look at the hype around the new livery all over the internet over the last year... and then look at what they went with! Its so sad.

Agree with above.

Although I reckon (hope) they are stalling to land a big sponsor before the season starts. Then will change the livery accordingly.

Gets the elephant out of the room 1st - all of the above has nothing to do with the video at all.

Depends on the material the "trousers" are made of surely - Ive certainly had some trousers that feel cooler in hotter countries than certain shorts. At the end of the day teams have to look smart, have you heard any complaints from staff they are much more uncomfortable? (minor things like this would leak if it was an issue).

You have a valid point about the driver line up - but do we actually KNOW when Alonso actually signed (for quite a while it sounded like it was Alonso stalling rather than McLaren)? What would have happened if they had released JB and not sgned Alonso? (edit - I will take this back, because there was a significant delay after the signing was agreed , remember though there is still a car manufacturer to take into account - how much does one have to take the other into account?)

Did McLaren drive (pun intended) any of the hype or was this 100% fan based , its not like McLaren can choose what gets hyped in the forums etc however much we would like to believe they would chose some other design. Have Honda come out and said they were pushing for a more Honda /history based livery? Remember this might not even be the one that's raced in Melbourne (depending on additional sponsors etc).

Depends on how you want to look at it I guess - Im not questioning sometimes they can appear that way, but I also think sometimes they are given **** for little reason
