Ok, after watching the video I don't blame the race director for being annoyed with them - they need their heads banging together.

3 safety cars (and there would have been another at the end of the race if they hadn't decided to just throw the red flag instead) along with 2 major accidents involving flying and flipping cars. 90% of all the incidents were caused by drivers not leaving a respectful gap and interlocking wheels, or pushing the other driver on to the grass.

Add to that the countless cars completely missing out chicanes and continuing without slowing, it was an absolute amateur hour.

Obviously a bit of prangage on the first lap, about 4:30 in, followed by a safety car. A big ass crash at 12:15 followed by another safety car. Another few incidents at 27:50, again a SC after that. Another spin at 36:30 followed by a red flag.

Basically, from the looks of it, the stewards got bored of bringing the safety car out all the time! lol

On a side note, you get to see a few people making full use of the new asphalt at the parabolica.

"Bernie says something deliberately controversial"

News it isn't :D.

But joking aside, I do agree that the team elements on the strategy group are incapable of looking at the bigger picture, so they should be removed. However, this is hardly the first issue I'd be addressing.

Its probably the root cause of a lot of issues though. Just look at how many disagreements over the rules we have had recently because "<insert team> doesn't agree".

This snippet alone nicely captures the whole issue with trying to regulate by committee:

"At last month's Strategy Group meeting nothing was decided - not even the date of the next meeting."

Watched the WSBK from Portimao yesterday, never seen a race from there before, what a fantastic track it looks, loads of elevation change and variation in corners.

Yep, its one of the best, if not the best newly built track out there.

Unfortunately they have had no intention of hosting F1 so only aimed for F1 Testing status rather than Race. But even then F1 has never used it even for a test :(.

Its in a few racing games and its an absolute hoot to drive. If I ever progress to a more serious track car than my Clio I am very tempted to get a boat down there.

Yea it looks a fantastic track, GP2 raced there in 2009, it's a shame it'll likely never get picked for F1... There just isn't the interest in Europe huh? :(

Assuming it would be easy to upgrade the track from F1T to F1 status, it would still need a promoter and massive financial backing, and without the government stepping in they are never going to get that in Portugal, especially with no Portuguese drivers or teams on the grid.

As Skeeter says, it's more that there isn't the money in Europe. F1 hasn't been about the best tracks for years now, it's been about having the best facilities. :(

The most recent new F1 track in Europe was Valencia. And before that it was Magny-Cours in 1991!

Donington Park obviously held the European GP in 1993, but it wasn't new by any stretch of the imagination - indeed it held Grand Prix (pre-F1 World Championship) races in the 30s.

They keep saying they need to decide what they want F1 to be and decide where it goes from here, I hope they do something to help alleviate these (and many other) issues... So many good tracks being under used.

I agree that there isn't likely to be any Portuguese teams and Da Costa was probably the best shot for a Portuguese driver and I doubt that'll happen now but that hasn't stopped many countries from hosting GPs... They could all be Government funded though (is Hungary?). I think there'd be a good amount of support if not from inside Portugal then certainly from the surrounding countries.

Next F1 boss

Some authoritative F1 correspondents says that Red Bull F1 boss Christian Horner as the ideal man to take charge of the Formula 1 future...

What is your thoughts
