Motorsport Off Topic Thread

He made one hell of a mess of his Ferrari at Le Man's earlier in the week.

His team got a new bare chassis and built an entire 458 race car in 9 hours!

Paul Hembery ‏@PaulHembery
Le Mans, soooo boring. Audi racing.. Audi,, racing Audi, Zzzzz

Neil Spalding ‏@Spalders

“@PaulHembery: Le Mans, soooo boring. Audi,, racing Audi, Zzzzz” As a senior rep of a control product supplier you should show more respect.
what an idiot....

Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembrey
****ging off lemans on twitter and insulting a bunch of the most importaint car manufacturers in the process

so far up his own ass and obviously loves the sound of his own voice

No he isn't. He just said that Le Mans got a bit boring, which it was.

Its not an insult towards Audi, or anyone, its just a comment.

Sounds like Neil Spalding (and you) are trying to make it into something its not.

I'f he'd said something like "Audi are rubbish and they are destroying Le Mans" then it would be different.

its a 24hour race you cant expect over taking every lap.... and the tyres dont go off at 5minutes so theres not really any artifical overtaking.

btw audi are part of the volkswagen group
the volkswagen group own
audi
bentley
buggati
lamborghini
49.9% of porsche
ducati
seat
biggest share holder of suzuki
skoda
volkswagen obviously
scania
MAN SE (they make trucks lots of them anual sales of 15bil)

i doubt they or any of the other manufactures who take part in le mans will take kindly to a tyre suppliers motorsport boss insulting a race series they take part in as beeing boring

Le Mans was a bit boring, he tweeted so. How is that an insult to anyone?

i guess someone like you would never get it...

tyre supplier motorsport boss calling a motor race boring and posting imature comments on twitter...

i guess it was a michellin tyre that won the race though....

He's a global celebrity and figure head for Mercedes. He's more well know than Paul Hembery by a long way.

And most people agree that Le Mans with just Audi out front is boring? Even Audi. The value to the brand is not just in winning, its also in beating your rivals. Audi crave competition.

Or is it only when someone say's something that you don't agree with that is 'immature and insulting' rather than just a generic comment?

There was nothing wrong with what he said, some people are just trying to make out that there is to give them something to shout about.

Audi are quite happy to have a race with someone. in fact if they win a race against another competitor it makes them look better. To win against Peugeot when there is one Audi and four Peugeots is better for them than to walk the race after their closest competitor has to withdraw all their cars during the race. Audi want competition.

Yep. Same reason Aston Marting and Corvette both moved from GT1 to GT2 a few years back. They didn't want to fight just against each other when they could be fighting against Porsche and Ferrari and others too.

Audi have no interest in a long term project with no competition. Of course they don't want to much competition, but they want someone there to compete against.

Same story with Michelin and F1. They wanted back in, but only if there were 2 or more tyre manufacturers.

Competing in the global spotlight is all about making your brand look good, and what better way to look good than go head to head against your rivals and beat them.

Without wanting to get dragged into this argument/bickering/discussion, I will say that, in my opinion, it sounded as if Paul Humbrey was indirectly ****ging off Audi due to having mentioned them in his snide remark. I mean, you can't really say he wasn't suggesting something--whatever that something may be--by posting a comment like he did while mentioning Audi. Paul Humbrey may well have just said "Audi makes Le Mans boring" -- at least that's how I read his Tweet.

I think Paul Humbrey needs to work on his subtlety if he's going to Tweet things like that. At the very least, though, I agree with the person who replied to his Tweet: Paul shouldn't have posted anything like that at all (whether mentioning any manufacturers or not) -- he's the Motorsports boss for a tyre manufacturer/supplier, not a casual fan of the sport.
