Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I'm late to the LOL band, but seeing his other views regarding physics it's not surprising at all.

Eh, I like to throw something funny out there once in a while. I just wish the silly sod would take the energy he spends railing at the engine rules and direct it at the things that do need fixing - the aero, the tracks, the tyre rules, the management structure of the sport....et al.

Not exactly a modern f1 engine, but arguably infinitely better: https://www.facebook.com/CrosthwaiteGardiner/videos/1073658812678594/

Niiiiiiiice....

Does that figure count cars being lapped as an overtake? If so then the lack of Caterhams would more than explain the difference in overtakes since the majority of the field lapped them every race

I think it only counts overtakes for position. But don't hold me to that! :p

It doesn't include lapping, as it only credits the Mercedes with a handful of overtakes, yet they lapped a lot of people at most races.

Its a decline, but its still 300% of the number of overtakes in 2008 http://cliptheapex.com/overtaking/ (just FYI deuse, that is a year with your favourate V8s in, just in case you get confused)

Does that figure also include overtakes during pitstops? I've looked at the tyre strategies of ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶f̶e̶w̶ ̶r̶a̶c̶e̶s̶ ̶i̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ a few carefully selected races and it seems there were a lot less pitstops this year compared to last. That could potentially make a big difference in the number of overtakes without affecting the on track action at all

*edit*
Derp, I really should read the whole article before I go off looking for other information. its right there in the last line that there were way less pitstops. Looking at the numbers I'm not sure if they counted overtakes due to pit stops because for most pit stops you would expect several people to get an overtake

There is certainly a significant and consistent decline in overtaking that FIA should be doing something about. But blaming the engines because that's the only drum you have and your going to beat it regardless is just idiotic or deliberately trolling, either of which is yet more useless dross that brings nothing to the discussion, yet will again remain completely and utterly unmoderated.

I do every year and I say the same thing. But I'll repeat it for you as your busy in your own thread :)

I would bring in these rules in.
There would be 3 front and rear wings to suit different tracks.
These wings will have 60% less down force then now.
There would be only one kind of floor.

Tires
Each set of tires must be able to 25 laps at qulai speed.
If there is a delamination, then the tire under that should last a lap at the speed of 100mph.
The tire will be wider.
The tire walls will be made much stronger.

F1 will take a leaf out of Motogp. They will be able to use softs on the front and harder at the rear.
But they must change it around during the race. This will help teams who can't get the right grip.

Fuel.
There will be enough fuel in each car to do 20 laps at quali speed+race distance.
They will be filled on the grid to the top.

Bring in cheaper engines.
The exhausts will come out of the car as they do now. This will stop teams getting an advantaged.

The cost that Bernie puts on tracks is just silly because the F1 teams want the money to do fancy things.
Now with way less aero they won't need it so CVC will be able to pass on the savings to the tracks.

I.E if I went to Silverstone and sat at becketts corner it will cost me about £300.
If I sat in the same seat to watch Moto2\Moto3 Motogp it would cost me £99.

Lots more but it's med\nurse time :D

^ as I've said. Come back with something better..oh wait it's you

I have put forward proposals a number of times. It's just on here any serious attempts at intelligent discussion are quickly stifled under a sea of ignorant dross posted by utter idiots and/or career trolls, so what's the point.

Some slightly odd things on the list there. How does this sound..

- One-make championship consisting of 26 identical cars. The chassis is designed by one manufacturer and the engine is a 4 litre V8 (no KERS).

- A race weekend is composed of a practice session, qualifying session, followed by two races.

- One tyre manufacturer that provides four specifications.

- Compulsory pit-stop in which all four tyres must be changed.

- No individual developments or upgrades are permitted in the series, and all spare parts must be purchased directly from the series owner. Repairs of structural components must be carried out by series owner in order to ensure integrity.
