52 million smackeroos just because they've been in the format the longest. A joke that.

As much of a joke as RBR getting an extra payment just for being the first to stick their hands up and ask for it? As much of a joke as McLaren getting a bonus for winning a constructors championship twenty years ago? :)

But yes, certainly the system needs reforming.

Isola pointed out that while the tyre degradation targets can be reached, teams will always be able to reduce how much degradation they experienced by telling drivers to manage their pace

oh great, more plodding around, not racing.

Why does anyone think babysitting tyres is exciting to watch?

Still think just opening up all tyre options to all teams every race but keep the 'you must use 2' rule Would be an interesting idea.

You could potentially have a medium and hyper soft stint Vs soft and super soft on a other car. If your tyres die too quickly thats your fault. I think it would be worth a try.
Would be interesting to see someone slap on a set of hyper softs because they coaxed their mediums all way to 10 laps remaining hunting down someone on used softs

Would really reward fans where cars can be very different on their tyre wear.

Teams would need to make their pick like weeks in advance as they do now though, would many take a gamble on an exotic tyre choice without seeing the weather and track conditions beforehand?

Obviously you could change it so the teams make the pick on the weekend but that will never happen as Pirelli won't want to lug dozens of unused tyres around nor would F1 want to do it as it'll be seen as un-environmentally friendly.

The quotes are out of context but it’s not that crazy when you look at the long term prospects of automotive technology.

I think formula e has a lot of interesting development going forward when it comes to the power train and energy recovery systems. If technology like super capacitors can be integrated alongside batteries to handle the regen. It could make the current hybrid push to pass systems look like a toy.

It could well take over as the panicle once a standard F1 race distance is possible at F1 speeds on battery. Some tracks are 80% full throttle for almost 2 hours so it’s going to be awhile. Energy density would have to increase by an order of magnitude to get the weight down. Well beyond what is possible in the short term.

Allow them to pick any 2 compounds, but have them pick ahead of the race so they aren’t tied in to dragging all different compounds around the world for every race.

Then get rid of the “must use both compounds” rule.

This would create so many variables and mixtures it could be an instant success. For instance, Merc could choose the US and Medium, Ferrari may go HS and Soft and Force India could go SS and HS. Depending on weather we’d potentially see someone going for a 3 stop sprint vs someone going for a 0 stop marathon vs a steady eddy 2 stopper.

Really think this sort of thing is a great idea. And if the teams decide no one can blame the fia

Pointless, they will all workout the fastest way round the track and just do that.

Or the tires also remain unstable they will all just pick hard tires and crawl round so they don't have to stop like they do now.

Seriously?

Lewis Hamilton makes then deletes an Instagram post calling for 'his' win at Spa in '08 to reinstated.

Christ, and I thought his fanclub nursed a sense of grievance over that episode for too long. He's apparently still narked about it a decade later! I mean, no question it was a lousy call in a season that featured far too many lousy calls, bad driving, poor sportsmanship and rampant idiocy from F1 fandumb to complete the **** soufflé. But at some point you've just gotta let it go...

hes not exactly demanding it back... and half the post is missing from that screen shot so who know what he put later on.

Anyway, anyone gave the new f1 podcast a listen? seems ok, not just the usual spiel you get from usual interviews.
