Sauber and Alfa have confirmed they're extending their partnership in a "multi-year" deal; ends the rumours that Sauber were poised to become a Renault partner team; now lets get Mick Schumacher in there next to Kimi or Gio for next year....

I think Gio is doing enough to stay, the problem is I don't think he's going anywhere in terms of his talent. Kimi is doing enough to stay, but what for, he's not going to get better. I suppose if by some miracle Alfa have a world beating car next year, Kimi is a steady hand that could lead and win races. Otherwise I think it's time.

Mick won't be going to Alfa, Haas have him on a two year deal and they won't be letting go. Let's hope their car is better next year.

I have a sneaking suspicion it may be all change at Alfa next year. It's surely time for Kimi to accept the inevitable and retire; and with Bottas likely looking for a seat, a team like Alfa would be fools not to snap him up. As for the other seat, if Schwartzman can get a bit of luck and deliver a strong season in F2, then I think Ferrari will want to get him into an F1 seat and it'll be curtains for Italian Jesus.

A driver who I read so much about as kid, a natural talent and quick

Neat photo of him and Bernie back in the day

Clive James' excellent documentary covered the showdown at Las Vegas 1981. Whilst I love seventies/eighties F1 this was a dreadful circuit.

Unlike many previously-maligned circuits (Hungary springs to mind), Vegas will never be seen as a classic ;)

Alan Jones' Biography mentioned, Carlos was distracted for this showdown, very chilled perhaps a bit too much (watching Clive James' documentary it seems to be the case). :D

I'm not sure anyone will truly know what was up with Lole that weekend.

F1 YT channel has a live reveal of a full-sized 2022 spec car, live from 3pm UK time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dSTarz5dIw

Most likely a marketing jerk-off routine, but maybe something interesting in there.

Unless they've made them a lot shorter and done an about-face regarding the weight of the bloody things I'll be barely able to contain my utter indifference.

Yeah, I can't help but think the regulations for this car didn't go far enough. They'll be a little bit shorter, a bit slower but they're not going to suddenly shake up how racing works and cars will still struggle to follow each other - just a little bit less than before.

Having seen it now it's very Indycar looking, think it's a combination of the paint job they've used and the 90's style front wing coming out of the nose! Also why did they take one of the biggest changes of the lot (the rim size) and put really weird rims on the car which makes them look like the current rims?!

Though these cars really are beasts, crazy long and wide nowadays.

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has launched a new charitable foundation to support young people from underrepresented groups in the UK and personally pledged £20million to fund it.

Hamilton’s new foundation Mission 44 will seek to support organisations and programmes that narrow the gap in employment and education systems in the UK.

It will also be working closely with the Ignite charitable initiative set up by Hamilton and Mercedes with a separate multi-million-dollar fund as part of his 2021 contract agreement.

The launch of Mission 44 follows the publishing of the Hamilton Commission report, a detailed body of work undertaken through a collaboration between Hamilton and the Royal Academy of Engineering to understand the reasons behind the lack of Black representation in F1 and UK motorsport.

Mission 44 will incorporate the findings from the Hamilton Commission’s research but while that report focused on establishing the wide range of societal issues holding back young Black people, Mission 44 will support other underrepresented groups as well.

The Sauce

Can't say he's not putting his money where his mouth is.

He’s spending money he should have been paying in taxes! /S

You joke, but I have seen that argument being made on the socials.

Quickest way to shut them up is point out that if he'd paid it in taxes then the government would have spent it on huge fees to a Tory party donor who didn't produce any usable PPE ;)

Hope Jack Aitken is alright after a horrible crash at Spa today. There was a sickening crash at Brands Hatch too in the classic BTCC race. Not posting a link here because 2 marshals got flattened by a barrel rolling car at speed. I wouldn't advise looking it up.

Last I heard re: Aitken he was in hospital for observation, no life-threatening injuries thankfully (and amazingly given how badly his car was destroyed). Haven't heard a thing re: Brands, which is concerning.
