Loving the chaos.

28th July - Vettel announced retirement
1st August - Alonso announces signed for Aston Martin
2nd August - Alpine announces Piastri promoted from Test driver to race driver in 2023
2nd August - Piastri announces that no he isn't...
Turns out Alpine's option for them to make him a race driver for 2023 expires on July 31st. Could be some fun legal shouting going on soon.

Alpine is the team I support.

I genuinely can't believe how much they've stuffed this up. Letting Piastri go is a starting a landwar in Asia level blunder. Messing up so badly they accidentally lost Alonso at the same time is next level incompetence.

I just hope they don't panic themselves into a bad signing off the back of it.

Alpine certainly made a mistake letting Alonso go but perhaps they really didn't see why he would leave for a lower ranked team. Afterall, most people are confused why he wants to go to AM right?

And why on earth would Piastri go to Williams? They've been firmly bottom of the table for how many years. You could say that Alpine are the perfect mid-level team for any new driver? Is he already chasing more money in his first year in F1? If so that is not a good way to start your career. If Alpine out-perform whoever he ends up with, he's going to look like a right doughnut.

That all works out great….. IF Danny Ric accepts the contract payout. What if he’s not interested in money and would rather drive a McLaren instead?

If McLaren agree to pay him his contract they don't have to put him in the car, Danny can't demand that he drives it,
they just put him on gardening leave and keep paying him, same as Ferrari did to Kimi
and that would mean that if anyone wants to hire Danny they'd have to effectively buy his contract off of McLaren, or Danny would have to agree to leave at a reduced price, maybe for free

They didn't make a mistake letting Alonso go; they made a mistake prioritising him over Piastri. (Or, if they really wanted to keep Alonso, they made a mistake prioritising Ocon over Piastri, either way they done ****** up).
