Motorsport Off Topic Thread

Have they been playing silly buggers trying to use some tech to increase prices for fans based on number of tickets sold, how busy the website is and other markers? Sounds like an effort to rip fans off. Pay more the same thing.
Yes, that's basically the gist of it, though I don't know the details. FB is full of complaints about prices increasing substantially while in a queue for half of the day until the system was taken down.
We were lucky and got tickets without being hit with increases (it seemed to affect GA and some grandstand tickets) but it's not an ethical way to treat customers.

Thanks :)

Silverstone has been getting a lot of justified criticism for the F1 ticket fiasco yesterday and their 'dynamic pricing'. There might be more chaos today when they resume sales.

I was looking at getting tickets yesterday, but couldn't even get on the site all day! Didn't even realise about their dynamic pricing until I read about it later. Nice touch trying to rip off fans. :(

Red Bull pull the plug on Herta, I assume because they've given up on any chance of him being granted a superlicense.
Makes it likely Gasly stays at Alphatauri next season then!

Rumours that AT are still looking outside the academy for a driver, and I've also seen suggestions that Gasly has a clause allowing him to leave for a higher team (which include Alpine). If not Herta then who? Schumacher? De Vries? Drugovich?

I'm going to go Schumacher frankly, Dy Vries is almost guaranteed Latifi's seat and Drugovich has just signed for Aston as reserve, I don't think he would have done that if a race seat was even a remote possibility.
I've actually been of the growing opinion that Haas would just end up resigning Mick tbh, but I think for his own career Alpine would be a better move.

I don't think he's been beaten by Magnussen now in the last 5 or 6 races and his performance seems to have been much more consistent, especially considering that Haas seems to have slipped back the grid.

I don’t get all the praise for Mick Schumacher. KMag has outperformed him this year and KMag isn’t exactly considered the next Senna.

Mick's been better in the races than KMag since about Miami, and in the last few races he's started being able to match him in Quali too. KMag landed good points in the first couple of races that have kept him ahead as the Haas has failed to keep pace with other cars, but - overall - Mick is the better driver and has much more potential to improve. I don't think he's a top tier driver but I think he's a worthy midfielder.

Delighted to see the back of Paul Ricard on the calendar for next year, also no clash with Le Mans 24 hour - be nice to see some drivers take part in that.
Spa has been moved into July (pre the Summer break instead of its usual place after) - oddly its the same weekend as the Spa 24 Hour is scheduled for so I guess that's going to need to move!

24 races. Is it the organisers intention to completely run this sport into the ground due to sheer exhaustion from both the teams and the audience?
No, it's to extend subscription figures for as much as the year as possible. The calendar used to run March to October, now it runs February to November (if you include testing too). That's two extra months of subs

Time to start a second race team to alternate between races? If so they needs exemption from the cost cap. Apparently as well any triple header needs approval from teams which wasn’t even asked for by the FIA, never mind approved and several circuits had to rush announcements after the calendar was released including Monaco. Poor performance again by Liberty and the FIA.

Many teams are deeply unhappy at Liberty’s blasé attitude.
