Apparently 6 sprint races for 2023 and beyond now as well.
Said before - scrap the sprint and introduce Ginetta Junior's or a cheapish one marque saloon/sports, that the drivers are randomly given.

Most likely a demolition derby would ensue! Nonetheless, I bet viewing figures for the Saturday would go through the roof!

Personally Sprints don't have a place in F1, just think they are confusing and take away from the main event.

I doubt any team would allow their ‘prized’ drivers to partake in any race before the main event for risk of injury.

True but is more content actually better? All sprint races do is get the grid in to race pace order before the actual race making the main race less interesting.

Even when you have someone really out of position, like Hamilton at Brazil, the spring was great but the main race was worse for having had the sprint.

I personally love the sprint races. It's more content, since we still have qualifying and everything else. It's an extra race. :)
As @Greboth said is more content actually better? You sound like someone who works for Liberty media! For me the sprints are just a tacked on sideshow that have nothing but a negative effect on the championship. Drivers should prove their worth as the fastest driver over one lap (i.e. qualifying) and then during a full race where strategy can take effect. This halfway house of "hrhr bumper cars" is just annoying and more akin to blindfolding the goalkeepers in a football game or something because it'd provide more entertainment... :o

This is how I think the sprint should work.

Qualifying on Friday determines the starting grid for the main race on Sunday.
Sprint on Saturday with a starting grid that's reverse of qualifying.
Separate competition for the sprint races only, points not going to the main championship.

That might give some interesting racing for the sprint without it affecting the main championship in any way whatsoever.

At at least two Sprint races of the six the teams must run their reserve driver. Give Super licence points out for the reserve drivers champion and introduce a reduced points requirement for a licence to run in these Sprint races.

So your championship contenders start at the back for the sprint, and the points gained there don’t count anyway? They’d just pull a 3 point turn and head straight into the pits :p

I think you don't understand how racing drivers brains work. Put them in a car, put them on a track, tell them there's a prize at the end and they race. That's how they're programmed :D

But with my serious hat on, make the sprint actually worth something to the teams. Give the winners more points towards replacement parts so they don’t have to take grid penalties or give the winners more wind tunnel time. Forget the stupid laurel wreaths that the drivers can’t wait to get rid, make them worthwhile and then the drivers will make the effort to do well.

Sprint champions get an extra $5m budget!

I deliberately didn't mention money but yes, a budget increase would work as well. Give them some incentive that they actually want.

I've found a channel on YT which has full BBC F1 highlights programs covering most years from the mid-90s back to the late 70s: https://www.youtube.com/user/bigzeddie76/videos. I've been really enjoying re-watching races from my favourite era, 87-96.

I'd suggest subscribing to get notifications, as sometimes the videos don't last long. Spa 92 was only up for a few hours before it got taken down unfortunately. If F1 TV had this full back catalogue available I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.

It does? Even the officially available service in the UK has all the previous races?

Reading reports rbr have significantly exceeded the budget cap. But there are no clear penalties in advance.

Ie. The punishment is unclear! How can a rule be in place but the punishment be unclear? Boggles the mind with the controversy last year. Do they not learn?

Also. Hearing more that de vries is off to alpha. And gasly to alpine.

So alpine are left with 2 mediocre drivers. Great move by alpha. Worth the risk!

So disappointed how alpine (all thier own fault) have ended up with gasley and Ocon rather than alonso and piastri!
