Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I noticed Ecclestone still appears to have a massive chip on his shoulder and still can't resist stirring the pot. 'Who said they have identical cars?'

One thing I wasn't aware of was Mosley and Ecclestone going to Brawn first and getting them to sign on for 2010.

Bit early for a Le Mans thread so I'll ask in here.

I've never been before and bought tickets yesterday as part of a glamping package (yes, I know... :o)

Tickets went on sale yesterday morning and I was looking at lunchtime and they were all but gone. There is even a lobby for waiting to get on the site.

Is this usually how it works?

This year there are many extra teams taking part in lmdh and Hypercar. Last year was the centenary so a combination of both is likely driving demand.

Paging @Jonny69

So a stake in Aston Martin has been sold which values the team at a billion dollars or something, err no it doesn’t, someone has bought a small stake in an f1 team for far too much money.
I suppose that’s one way to get tickets.

Just way to start the 4th episode of that Brawn documentary, but it’s been very enjoyable. Keanu Reeves clearly likes the story, as he seems very excited at times.
It’d be nice if this could pave the way for some more F1 documentaries.

Expanding on this, 2024 is also the first year of GT3 in Le Mans spec meaning more manufacturers there too. Jealous of anyone going after having been there for the centenary!

Don't loose faith, last year was the first year we couldn't just "buy" tickets ad-hoc from Le Mans website/1s tickets etc when we finally decided to go. But if you keep an eye on some Le Mans forums/PH forums closer to the time the amount of people reselling tickets was quite surprising, and as it got closer to the event they were essentially selling at face value too.

I know it leaves it in the lap of the gods, but I can imagine it being same this year too...same with any high demand event these days. We ended up buying tickets at pretty much face value a week before the event. To be fair, we just needed GA tickets so not camping so they'll likely be harder to get hold of but if we decided to go again in '24 will probably do the same as we did last year and wait it out.

Good luck, last year was an incredible year and this '24 looks awesome with the number of new entries in Hypercar and the new GT class. I'm thinking I might do Spa or Imola WEC round this year rather then Le Mans and hope the hype blows over for '25.

It isn't usual that the tickets sell out so fast. Last year was the first time this happened which was a combination of the Centenary and reduced allocation for camping as some of the space was used for corporate hospitality.

Looks like this year is continuing the trend, and there are quite a few grumbles about it on the Midweek Motorsport discussions.

Watched the first episode of the Brawn series. Interesting and entertaining stuff. Obviously I know the general story already, but there's still a lot of stuff in there that is either new to me or I'd forgotten.

Keanu is an engaging presenter too.
Good reminder, totally forgot about this - that was some season 2009 - Honda really shafted themselves quitting!

It's classic Honda though isn't it, they quit and then Brawn reap the benefits of their design. Then they quit the engine game and now Red Bull are reaping the benefits of their engines as 'Red Bull Powertrains'.

And now they are coming back for another go in 2026 to supply engines for Aston Martin. I wonder how long they will last this time.
