I dunno, a lot of the commercial partnerships, sponsors/arrangements for the year are likely hinged on Lewis' involvement/etc. I think it's more complicated to do a swap this year.
That’s not really his problem though is it. “Sorry Lewis you can’t move to Ferrari because we signed a Lego deal”. These corporations have lawyers and people in place to deal with these things.

If it is happening for 2025 it’s going to be a bit of a Debbie downer on this year. Although this year didn’t really have much going for it tbh!

Edit: it’s nearly 2pm guys. Where’s the annoyed mechanic secretly live-streaming the meeting? :p

I've been thinking about it, and I think Merc will put Mick in that seat. There to keep the seat warm for a couple of years while Antonelli gets a couple of years of experience at a smaller team before joining Merc. Ocon is the other likely candidate, but Ocon has a reputation as being a troublesome teammate and I think he'll want a multiyear deal to go there while Merc will want to have their second driver on a short contract.

I worked with a guy years ago who had a proper hate boner for Hamilton. Loved Mercedes, Rosberg, Vettel and probably Ferrari the most. His Facebook used to be littered with other like minded Ferrari ‘fans’. I might have to look him and them up to see how they are getting on today… :D

It’s weird though because he used to do loads of marshalling and even sought out Hamilton’s autograph once?!

So when do we get the official announcements?
It would be utterly hilarious if Mercedes made an announcement this afternoon saying that they've been following the news today and would like to announce that it's completely untrue and that the meeting at 14:00 was just to confirm Lewis' commitment to the team. Then blame everything on Will Buxton for making it up.

It kinda is though?? I mean, he has personal sponsorships. commitments, and a signed contract that still has wet-ink for a 2024 season. A lot of that is related to his being a Mercedes driver.

I can see it perhaps happening at the end of the year with a few races to go... Only if there was a really terrible breakdown in the relationship between the drivers/teams, and no real fight in place between them. It could help all sides to get a running start in into 2025. It's still very unlikely though.

But surely his personal sponsorships are just that. They might be in Mercedes colours sometimes, but surely a Monster drink can doesn't have Mercedes plastered all over it? I don't know. I don't profess to be an expert, I'm just sure there are either get-out/payout clauses if he doesn't drive for the team, or they're all big enough brands with enough lawyers to figure something out.

Its more that the team sponsors are signing up to a certain amount of access to a driver and his following/engagement also as part of the wider deal. The prices paid, and agreements could be null and voided if access to him specifically is a named part of the contracts, for example. They would have a pretty compelling argument that the value of the contracts have changed significantly if the driver (who had a signed contract for 24) was suddenly changed out.

It's not my area of expertise, but you can be damn sure that lawyers would be all over it if there was any ambiguity in the wordings.
