Motorsport Off Topic Thread

Once upon a time, getting up to watch the Aussie GP live at the season start, helped with preparing me to adjust for the clocks going forward.

My wife remembers a house party going on till 2am, she went to bed. I spent 2 hours doing washing up and tidying the kitchen mess mainly and then stayed up to watch the Oz GP.... In the days when I could do such things. Now sleep rules (plus who wants to watch the Dutch Yob win)

Oh baby - that's what you call a photo finish.... 3 wide across the line last night at Atlanta.... Great racing...

Loved it.

Was class to watch that live. Great race throughout and couldn't tell who'd be the eventual winner.

That's what I love about it - literally anyone still standing with 10 laps to go can win a race like that.....

I've got WAY more into NASCAR recently as F1 is just so boring these days with really only one team/one driver likely to win a race these days.....It's very "formulaic" at the moment F1.

If that's the case why watch a 400 lap race? F1 isn't getting the balance right at the moment, but I don't want things to be so swingy that literally anyone can win with 10 laps to go either. What happens over the course of the race should matter.

maybe that was a little tongue in cheek comment about 10 laps etc - but F1 has become stale at the moment, just like it was a times with Merc winning all the time etc - but at least we had some drama with Rosberg/Hamilton etc - Max has no team mate to challenge him nor any other car/driver to challenge him.

Been watching since Mansell days etc - but F1 is a very poor spectator sport at the moment in terms of overall championship - some decent watchable races but also some horrible tracks don't help....

It's a gimmick but nascar races are split into three separate stages and you get points at each one. So people will force themselves to stay out longer and get points off a stage which compromises them later.

The course of the race does matter, just like it does in stuff like WEC, except they stay close enough in the ovals that you just have to be in it to win it. Most of the field remain on the lead lap also.

PlanetF1 reporting that the investigation is "done" and we should expect an outcome before the weekend now
Hopefully we will find out before the race on Saturday. I find this reflects quite badly. on Red Bull themselves, especially if he's let go/fired/asked to resign. That he wasn't suspended /given gardening leave immediately raises several questions about the handling of the whole situation.

Yeah if he's let go, etc then I don't understand why he wasn't suspended tbh, but then I guess I'm looking at it from a UK stand point not the wider Austrian/Thai, etc involvement.

Lets be honest. If he stays, there will be loads of questions now. And if he goes, there will be loads of questions...

Its been whipped up so bad I'm not sure people will just take a, "It's ok, its all been straightened out." now. :/

And Horner will do his usual 'play the victim' then lash out in some way. No doubt media will be told that they cannot ask about it in any interviews and if any media does ask him about it he will play the victim, then block them or refuse to speak to that media outlet. Again.

If that is the case, why even partner up with Ford? They clearly don't have the expertise in-house to develop the whole powertrain for the new regulations.
Obviously they think they can do a better job by partnering with Ford, but it doesn't mean they will have to go crawling back to Renault if Ford pull out.
