Mountain Biking

The FR trail looks good, but mine's just for use while trail riding - so went with one of the less bulky / smaller packs

Yeah I need something for all day events, think the osprey is on top as I can use that for Hill walking too.

ixs trail rs is worth a look too, really comfy lid. no gopro mount options however if youre into that sort of thing.

I've also got the ixs trail and it's hard to see how a lid could be much better.

What hyrdration packs are everyone using?

I've got a cheapo one from decathlon just now, which is fine with just water in but even though designed to carry stuff it's just awkward and doesn't fit comftorably.

Been looking at the Osprey stuff, or do I just go with camelbac?

I've had a few Camelbak's and their newer stuff doesn't seem anywhere near as good as the older stuff, so my next bag will probably be Osprey or Evoc. Not going with Camelbak again, had to return this one 3 times now. I don't even get out much atm!

The bag im lusting after is the Osprey Raptor 14. Osprey packs are brilliant.

Cheers. Looks like Osprey is the best bang for buck option then. Found the escapist 25 for £57 so with a bladder it works out at £75 which doesn't seem to bad at all.

I went in and tried on the Fox flux, Bell Super and Troy Lee A1

All 3 fit pretty well but the A1 fit the best, then Bell and Flux. However I instantly noticed the difference in warmth between the A1 and Bell (probably because the A1 felt like a pillow wrapped around my head!)

After speaking to a shop assistant who confirmed reviews of the A1 regarding vents and looking where they were, I went with the Bell. The A1 still looks and feels like a great helmet but I think riding in summer it would be very hot. The Bell was also £40 cheaper

Thanks for input

the only thing with massive vents (as i found with the ixs) is brain freeze in the winter :D

i got a thin buff snood to go under it in the winter.

I would rather be cold and put my buff snood on in winter than have sweat dripping in my eyes in summer - But thanks, i'll throw my buff into my pack

Good choice, but... when you;re riding, air blows through the vents, so there really is a non-issue there with the A1.
Also, you live in the UK - you have a handful of "hot days"... :p

I'm looking for some new 26" rims for a wheel build.

Currently have Hope hubs ready to go.
The issue I have is that, what I thought would be a good idea at the time, a 36 hole rear hub. Thinking it would be great for strength but it turns out things have moved on and there are hardly any 36 hole rims on the market.

So I either keep the 36 hole rear hub (I have 32h front) and lace some Mavic 721 rims
OR
return the rear hub for a 32h counterpart while I still can so I have a wider selection of rims to play with!

Good point! However last time I went biking I was sweating my sack off and it was pretty cold

Now that I am not limited to cycle scheme bikes, would anyone recommend something like the Canyon Grand Canyon AL SLX 7.9 - https://www.canyon.com/en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=3645 over the 456 evo from On-one...
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBOO456CEVOX9/on-one-456-evo-carbon-sram-x9-mountain-bike

Go try a 29"/650b/26" before buying.

But the two bikes are different, I know Head angle is a poor measurement tool but the canyon has a 70degree HA and the On-One 66(iirc, maybe 67) But that is a big difference. Making one more of a XC and the other more of a trail/all mountain hardtail.

It all depends what you're riding, or what you want to ride.

Their both going to be great regardless though.

Second option...

Is also what I'm leaning towards.

The 721 seems like a fairly decent rim and comes in 32h and 36h and any weaknesses in the rim compared to the heavier 823 would be handled by the extra spokes? I don't really know what I would go for even if I did change the hub to 32h - which is why I'm ask the question.

Any recommendations? Will be used for DH.
