Mountain Biking

wow, who'd have thunk that bearings would be so expensive.

£40 for 8 Enduro bearings. Not even the MAX versions if that really matters?

6900-2RS Enduro 10x22x6 qty 4 @ £3.65
6901-2RS Enduro 12x24x6 qty 2 @ £3.75
6903-2RS Enduro 17x30x7 qty 2 @ £4.65

edit - so it seems i want the MAX versions for suspension pivots. so £60 then (£4.99, £5.99 and £7.25 respectively) :(

What bike is it for. I only ask as if its a Santa Cruz i just sent all my old ones to them and they sent brand new ones back.

Is it easy enough to convert from 2x10 to 1x10? Not that I will instantly but there obviously less to go wrong with 10 gears than 20 (and last time I went I only used 4 or 5 gears anyway)

the chainset will be annoying - as you wont be able to mount the single chainring in the center of the chainset (like you can with a tripple) so the chain line might be a bit dodgey

otherwise its easy - get a narrow wide chainring and some single chainring bolts, stick it on, bin front mech and shifter = win
also you might want to make sure you have a clutch rear mech, 11-36 rear cassette will get you round most places, but you can get a 40t extra large cog if not
most people seem to use a 32t chainring, or bigger if you are a real man (which I am not)

I never even thought of that on my Pitch, and it was fine and dandy.

So heading to Scotland next month and looking at doing some touring about, thinking Torridon, Isle of Skye etc. Anyone got any other suggestions? I was going to head to Fort William but it seems the uplift will still be off then!

I had no problems doing that, best move i made also :) 34t for me, still 11-36. Still yet to struggle on the north wales hills, although on long long rides, the final few hills im hitting the shifter hoping theres an extra gear haha :) forces you to get stronger though !

Installed a hope lower headset today, oh my good god getting the old cruddy nukeproof warhead out was hard work. About 45 minutes of non stop hitting! I thought my frame was going to be totalled but the stuborness in me carried on.

Look at the state of this cup! I've took out quite a few headset cups and none were even 10% close to the hardness of this piece of tat!

Does anyone know if Halfords sell off previous model year stock cheaply? My old 2009 Trek 6500 is getting a bit tired so got my eye on this Boardman but wondering if there will be some savings to be made soon?

Can't see any of them getting round BPW but thanks for the heads up :D

Might as well put it in at the beginning of the thread, give you all something to talk about:-

As far as i'm aware the only real world difference is that the BB80 is availavble in 83mm, is gold and has longer thread on the driveside cup for BB fitment chainguides, seems like a pretty redundant feature in this day and age, but i guess there are still people using them.

Cant say i've had any long term experience of shimano BB's, got a set of the silver one in my bike tool kit but never needed to use it, but for that price what would it matter if the bearings only lasted a few months.
