Mountain Biking

Haha, out with the old, and in with the new!

Its a VERY tight fit, but I can still get the all the required parts. The bottom mount is bodged from the original shock mount. I should have the new one by Sat latest, I hope! I had to shave down the top bush mount to fit inside the frame, but it does look like it will work :D

Not ridden it yet, waiting to get it installed correctly, but it felt much more "plush" when i sat on it to test the range of movement :)

Has anyone ridden BPW lately? Whats the uplift like now.

I went when it first opened, Didn't book the uplift but managed to get on the bus each time by paying the driver. A few of us are heading south wales for a few days from Monday onwards and planning on heading there after riding afan on the Sunday.

What are the chances of us doing the same this time around?

Its either BPW or cwmcarn but ive heard some of its closed :( so will probably give that a miss.

Anywhere else i should be considering in south wales?

Went to BPW about 6 weeks ago on a Saturday - uplift bus was rammed every trip to the top despite having buses driving around in pairs. Think the vast majority of people getting on where in the day ticket queue - I'd not think you'd have much luck without proper tickets but I could be wrong.

When Begbie and I rode BPW (and Supercow!) on a Saturday a few months back we managed 7/8 trips on the bus on a singles (paying driver/singe uplift tickets), but I think we were lucky that day as it's usually full on weekends. However the differing abilities/speeds of people means not every bus load gets back to the bottom at the same time so you may get lucky.

South Wales;
Cwmcarn (but like you a good chunk of the Twrch trail is closed)
BPW
Brecon Beacons
Afan !!! (Seriously go if you've not been)
And Brechfa over Carmarthen way
And loads of non trail centre riding.

Comrie croft tomorrow, never been before, anyone ridden there before? Expecting it to be a tad on the moist slick side. Plan on riding all the trails at least once.

Wales seem the place to be to be honest. Strikes me that the government is putting a lot of money into sports development / outdoor activities.

That's from an outsider's perspective, but I reckon you guys have it good.

Got a weekend booked next month up North Wales...never thought I'd be this excited to wax up my board, and head up to snowdonia! Gonna ask them to crank her up to 11 and rip the knob off :D

Checked surf snowdonia out the other day as it local to me, does look good fun. However the prices are a joke to be honest. I suppose its fine if your coming as a one off but if you live local its like nah!! :)

^^Is that air shock the same i2i and stroke as the old coil? It looks shorter.

eye to eye is actually 5mm longer, and stroke is the same (1.5inch or 38.1mm) Its just the perspective causing it to look odd.

Its a well known change as these frames had 160mm shocks for some reason, and adding the BETD linkage replacement (when I can find one!) will put the geo back :)

Yea, for sure. Though, I'd assume they'd have some sort of locals discount and membership scheme. If I was local that'd be what I'd be looking in to... but that's just because surfing's my main sport, so will take priority monies :D

Set the sag at 30%. put the ring at the top and bounce around on it a bit and see how far it goes. Seemed to work ok for me. I'd stick the rebound somewhere in the middle to start.

You *MAY* be out of luck on the uplifts. Me and the wife have uplifts pre-booked this Monday and Tuesday, and apparently they're fully booked on both of those days now.

However, there's nearly always someone who can't make it last minute due to injury, illness or bike failure, so it could be worth turning up on spec.
