Mountain Biking

I've been scaling back recently, if i'm riding under 2 hours i dont even bother carrying water anymore, just phone car keys and a multitool.
Day ride i'll carry a Camelback mule with water, small energy bar, spare tube, 2 tyre levers and a small pump, and a couple of cable ties just incase, pocket contents will go in bag and depending on weather a light waterproof jacket will be thrown in there too or just worn.
Anything beyond that is just unneccesary weight. when i got that daysack i had a tendancy to over pack with various tools that never saw the light of day, tube, patch kit etc etc
if i need tools beyond a pump and a multitool toppeak multi 18+, then something has gone seriously wrong, and more than likely a ride ender anyway due to injury or part failure.

First aid kit? Nah never, the car has its OEM first aid kit under the passenger seat, but i very much doubt i'd ever use it, but if it gets to a point where you need proper first aid on the trail a phone to call in help/the services would be more useful, unless you carry splints or tourniquet I cant see a first aid kit being much use.
I'd rather finish the ride and clean up any cuts, grazes or bruises properly at home before putting any dressing over them.

Never considered a firstaid kit, like others have said cuts and bruises can wait. Anything worse than that a firstaid kit is unlikely to be a whole lot of help whilst in the middle of nowhere.
Always take water with me, even if just riding around local to my house. Likewise keys + phone. At trial centres that steps up to Camelbak, phone, keys, wallet, multitool, pump, spare tube and maybe some snacks. So far I've only had to use the multitool.

Sometimes in the car but never on the trail.

I dont really see the point. If you've broken a bone whats a first aid kit going to accomplish?

A strong disinfectant, dressing and some insulation tape should be in everyone's pack.

Who knows what could get into your blood riding an hour back to the car.

indeed. saves blood collecting in your shoe if nothing else :D

Great day - loved it - did FTD and Monkey, didn't have time for Stile as I needed to pick kids up from school as got let down, otherwise would have had loads of time.

Bike got a proper work out (me too) - I can still hear the sound of chain slap now :p

No one told me though that it was compulsory to take £2000 of bike - I think I was the only person running £600 of bike. Next time I'll wear a mask to hide the shame. :D

It aint the bike dude, all about the rider. Never be ashamed of what you ride!

I'm hoping to hit cannock sunday, dont think i've been this year! I think i've rode 4 times this year and thats 3 bike park wales n a forest of dean. Pedaling is gonna feel weird :p.

Indeed - it just made me laugh, I was pleased with how I rode too. Was a little concerned the HT would be out of its depth but it was absolutely fine.

Enjoy!

The good news is the ground is pretty dry - I think I saw two puddles max all morning. :)

Cannock is a lot easier and more fun on a hard tail but i have neither the funds or space for another bike so im going to be slogging around a 160mm beast. Luckily my monarch plus and pike both have pedal friendly settings to reduce bob.

I should be there for around 10:30 if anyone fancys doing the lot.

Ahh man, gear cable snapped half way round cannock!

Gonna upgrade to 11 speed xt soon though as never been a fan of sram x9, its so damn heavy and clunky compared to my old xt setup. It shifts fine but far more agricultural than xt (nothing wrong with it, just personal preferance).

Had fun till my gear cable died though. Though they've turned one of th cliff descents (upper i think) into like a tarmac pedestrian path. It used to be quite gnarly with roots, brake bumps, ruts and mud but now just a smooth hard path which would destroy bike and rider if you slid out on the crud.

Just back from the BDS at Antur! was ace seeing all the legends come down, they all stopped near the drop at the bottom, waited for rob warner to come down then threw beer on him as he passed haha. Quality day!

Tyres for what purpose?

Downhill ya got maxxis minions, schwalbe magic marys
