Mountain Biking

Serious question: is it actually possible to get into mountain biking if you don't happen to live near a trail and can't drive?
MTB isnt all about riding at dedicated MTB Trail centres, theres a whole world out there to explore, find some woodland, find some hills, local quarry, nearby country park, trust me if you have a bike you will be able to find something/somewhere to ride, thats the beauty of mountain biking.

Darnit, there goes my warranty Touch :(

I think this video is the best example of what steve45 above is talking about.
I know this kid fairly well - he races the world cup DH series and have broken into the top 20 at one of the gnarliest tracks of the year.
He lives in Berhamstead, and there's just flat woodlands there. Him and the other young guns dig grooves in loamy corners and proceeds to hit the crap out it... having fun.

There's some purpose built trails in this vid... but a lot of it is just scratched out of nothing. As steve said, that's the beauty of it, you can go find your fun.

:D Phil Atwills Edits get me so buzzed for riding!!!
thats MTB at its best.

I remember when i nor my friends could drive, dedicated MTB trails didnt even exist in the north of the UK, to get our fun, we had to make it, i cant even count of the amount of trails/features/lines we built over the years that got flattened by authorities/locals or left to rot, as we progressed to bigger things or different styles of riding, make the most of what you have, get creative, explore, the world is truly your oyster. One thing i will say is if you really do plan you enter the world of MTB, do not pigeonhole yourself into a certain riding disciple too early, play, try everything before settling on a single type of riding.

that atwill video is awesome, i always watch it when i need to get buzzing. His style is unreal man.

But yea sometimes the best trails are the ones you stumble across! this is why MTB is the best its freedom :)

Used my new Exposure Mk6 SixPack last night, it's awesome!!

Apparently a buddy of mine signed my up to ride tidworth in november? Never been there before but he said i'll like it so i'm down!

Im after a seal kit for my monarch plus rt3. Any kit i should look out for or just stock sram kit? I did want upgraded seals like skf or racing bros but cant find any.

Started riding in and around Sheffield and after an off at Devil's Elbow I've decided some knee pads might be a good investment. Any recommendation for decent XC pads that can take a knock on rocky trails?

Absolutely! I've only done one trail center, and it was good, but nothing beats going out and exploring, that's where the fun is for me, there's a whole world of ways to go. There's no such thing as getting lost if you have no destination!

I have a seal kit for a monarch rt3 that I used to have, the seal kit is still in the packaging, send me a trust and I'll send it to you? If it's not the right one just throw it or something?

If you don't mind an external battery pack, I used to have a 1200 lumen light from Amazon search 'iamoutdoor' I think it was. It was pretty good but the battery pack annoyed me!

That is a LOT of light, but alas - I don't think I want something heavy or cumbersome - I've just upgraded my bike to lose a kilo - don't want to be adding half (or more) of that back on with a light.

Going to LBS today so I'll see what deals he can do on a Cateye.
