Mountain Biking

I'm getting back into my riding. Got a pass for sherwood pines since its my most local trail. Gonna start going a couple of nights a week while it's light. If you see a tall dude on a boardman pro that's me. If I get fit this summer I'll buy a nice full Susser again in the new year. I wanna attempt some races next year. Just casually, nothing hardcore cos I'm getting old.

How old is old?

I'm 44, not an athlete, and finding myself in various Strava top 10's around my local trails.

Ok I guess I'm not old. I'm over 30 and feeling my age though.

Kinda wish I'd stuck at biking in my mid 20s so I wasn't finding things so challenging these days :)

Yea i dont think 40's is old for a mtb'er atall, i ride with a 45 year old often and he keeps up with me on climbs, if your fitness is pretty good then its fine :D

Sooo

Desperately need to get back into mountain biking

Should I 'sort' my on one 456 or buy something new on cycle scheme

Last time I rode 29ers where a rarity and now there's 3 wheel sizes to choose from :p

My Orange Crush S arrives today :D I struggling to contain my excitement! I've got Friday off as I worked Sunday so a long weekend of Cwmcarn/Forest Drive for me.

Any suggestions for a reasonable jump frame for pump track duties? Been using the 456 but had a go on my friends Curtis the other day and it was like night and day.

Turns out my frame is being shipped to the shop i ordered it from. They 'should' receive it Thursday, if they do i will have it Friday. i have a day to build keeping fingers crossed that all parts are ok and then take it for a test run and then a long weekend to start enjoying it. if not then my weekend is a bust :(

If you're ever up around Hamsterley.... :)

While I'm here, when I get tubless, I couldn't believe how easy the front tyre was. I have Stans no flow, bought their kit, rim tape, valve core remover, valves, sealant, etc.

I thought the rear would be a breeze too. Can I get the rear to inflate? No...it's just like the tyre, either bead of it, will sit against the rim edge. Most annoying. I have 3 tyre levers to assist, but short of using a compressor, I'm not sure if I'm missing a technique trick. I've used soapy water, etc, etc.

Inflate with a tube in to set both beads.
deflate, break one bead, remove tube.
insert valve, put bead back on
try to inflate, should work, if not, work some of the bead into place using tyre lever.

I always inject sealant through the valve, then I don't have to worry about it while I'm getting the tyre in place.
