Mountain Biking

Nice dude, she confident on a bike at all? Whats the tracks like there?
She's great on a bike, first run of the day on a brand new bike was down a blue run. Easy day for both of us as we'd done a 40 mile race on Saturday.

We've got three different ski resorts within about an hour of home and plenty of variation across those, then at least another four resorts within easy driving distance.

Rode Sherwood again at lunchtime today. I was driving down the A1 from up north so I figured I'd stop along the way. My fitness is slowly improving. Hopefully I'll get good one day!"

Kielder....

Talk to me about the trails at Kielder...
I've only done the Osprey round the reservoir one on a hardtail years ago and it was mostly flat and boring.
My mate wants to do Lonesome Pines but apparently it's rubbish. And Deadwater is better.
Is it possible to do both easily? or all?

Went to Glentress with two workmates for a long weekend, turns out Muffin' is one of them... We only realised half way through the weekend!
Epic weekend, the trials up there are fantastic. Some brutal climbs which I was really struggling with but the downhill sections, whether blue, red or black were top notch. Black runs were punishing, 2x pinch flat punctures in the space of ~30 mins :(

Need to find our team's times for the Relay race to see how we did fully. The fitness of some of the guys there was bonkers, solo riders doing 4 laps more than us 3 as a team

Personally mate, I was a lot less than impressed by any of the trails there, felt like a wasted journey for me, long old slogs up for bugger all fun back down, disliked the place a lot, definitely wouldnt waste my time going back.
Deadwater and the black upper was such a terrible disappointment, bloody bush had a few detours which affected portions of the boardwalk and just felt overall a waste of time, i was so annoyed that I sacked it early and stopped in at Hamsterley on the way back just to get me out of my mood.

Can't recommend Kielder to be honest, the trails are.... moderate, but the big downside to them is the length of time it takes to get there!

You think you're close... but then there's still another 40 mins or so of driving to do, and the same back out again, just to get back to a half decent road.

There's an epic section of boardwalk with step ups, skinnny sections, a wooden bridge and it's awesome fun, 10-12ft up in the air, but it's really only a little treat for such a trek out.

It's worth doing at some point to see how it is, and they've built a couple of new bits quite recently that were quite fun, but if you're making a trip out that way, go to Glentress instead :D

Just checking some old photos because of a US ProGRT DH race this past weekend, in the 2008 iteration known as the US Open - Stevie Smith winning as an 18 year old.

Someone (you) followed me on Strava, I think. And I couldn't think of anyone I know in Brizzle.

I think you followed me first

I only remembered you from when you used to fly me around in the Little Bird in Desert Combat about 13 years ago ()

My YT has been despatched. Gonna order the vaults and a Fenwick's cleaning kit. Ready for when it arrives. Any tips for a fairly nooby rider? I got very ancy on my old bike hopefully I'll be less nervous on the new one.

Yea that was the plan, looking at a few around the £1k mark - if I lose £100 on resale then it's still way cheaper than hiring plus the bike I can fiddle with

My friend bought an Iron Horse Sunday many years ago for the same idea, spent a £1k sold it for £1.1k after two weeks use in France! Ideal idea if you got the cash and beats spending £700+ renting!

I (well I got my brother who lives over there too) bought two trails bikes in NZ for our 3 week holiday earlier this year. Ended up losing £250 once they were sold. Much less than what we would have paid renting them for the 6/7 days of riding we did.
