Mountain Biking

Yes I am buying it for an old Orange Patriot. I need a 26" fork with a straight steerer tube and my wheels are 9mm QR, finding a half decent fork with these old features is proving difficult, when they do pop up they seem to go for a lot of money and I am on a budget, that is why I am reluctant to buy a new headset and wheel set to accommodate a more modern fork.

I wouldnt bother getting a fork to accept 9mm QR, its old flexy crud. Buy a new front hub which is 15mm and the fork market is yours.

If you are stuck on getting a 9mm accepting fork it will most likely be old.

You can get caliper adpators on the net easy enough, just look for a 180mm mount on fleabay/chainreaction/wiggle etc

Thanks Juggy, much appreciated. I will look for a hub that is 15mm, as you say the forks that are 9mm are old and generally in need of a service so it might be cheaper in the long run to get the hub and a newer fork.

Thanks again :)

Well the results are in!
I was gutted to not be able to get up there this weekend, the atmosphere must have been amazing, the weather looked superb and that crowd was ******* Huge!
Respect to UCI for allowing the Stevie Smith memorial run to take place at his protected start time, quite moving!
quite an emotional event all round with it also being peatys last WC race there.
What a run by Minnaar true legend of the sport and still delivering, he did me good and won me £65! well chuffed!
great performances by Danny Hart and Adam Brayton as well.

On my way back from Fort Bill. What a day. 31c!!!! Amazing atmosphere as always. Biggest crowd I have seen there. Got a few pics to post up later. :)

Anyone got any experience of the KS Lev Integra seat post? They seem a good alternative to the RS Reverb, and give me the 150mm option at a reasonable price. Cable over Hydraulic actuation seems a reliable choice too. Looking at getting one for about £245.

I got my Reverb 150mm for cheaper than that. But I've heard good things about the KS.

managed a few hours after work today, some cracking weather up here in the north this afternoon!

Bike feels great, not as slack as i thought it would feel but very compact and quite stiff for a cromoly frame.

I got my 150mm Reverb from Commencal, cheapest around so have a look on their site!

So what's better, a 2014 Giant Glory 1 with essentially standard spec, or a 2012 Nukeproof Scalp with a few upgrades? Only going to be used for a week tbh then sold and I'm not a hardcore downhiller!

That fattie. Is it fun?

Ordered some of the new Superstar wheels, the raceface things are needing trued pretty much after every ride. First ever enduro the other day, 34/55. Not too bad, as I went into most of the trails blind, and not touched a bike in ages. 8-9km of downhill, it was bloody tough going too. Probably the only uplift Enduro event though :D

I'd go for the Glory, it's newer and be easier to sell.

My arms are still a little sore, from a weekend around Glentress on this bad boy! :D

Get yourself a tyre upgrade as soon as you can, I swapped the default Mission Commands for Jumbo Jim Snakeskins on my fatbike, so much better!

*Wheelbarrow alert*
:p

Be all that damping, oh wait :p

It was lovely and dry at the weekend....

That fattie. Is it fun?

Yup! It's certainly different, and you have to ride it a different way to a 'normal' bike, it really does float over a lot of stuff, it's weakest point is probably where you've got a lot of rocky bumps all close together, think bad braking bumps on a berm, it does send the shocks through your body a bit. Was still 2nd fastest out of the group of 8-10 of us on it! :D

Why so? Only had it out once so far, what differences do you find with them?

Well I missed the parcelforce delivery of my YT. If I knew it was being delivered today I would have stayed home to collect it...

Why cant they give you a Tracking style thing like DPD.

Now I have to probably collect it from the Depot which is open in the times that I work. Great!

Well that's ruined my weekend.
