Mountain Biking

Why so? Only had it out once so far, what differences do you find with them?

Once you drop down below ~12 PSI on Mission Commands, I got this horrid situation where the front wheel wanted to change direction differently to what I had in mind, I can only presume at this point that this was the infamous "self steer" issue that plagues some fat tyres. No such issue I can feel with the Jumbo Jims.

Plus on the road, the Commands were incredibly draggy, even at max pressure of 20 PSI. It made the ~57 GI gear really hard work on my quads and especially my knees, with the Jumbo Jims at the near the max pressure of 30 PSI it is so much easier and much more pleasurable.

When I first got the fatbike back in February, given I had no other reference point, I just thought it was part of the compromise of chunky tyres. But the Jumbo Jims transformed my opinion, which I was mighty relieved about, given they "only" cost me ~£80 for a pair during that 20% Ebay discount promotion at Easter.

Well, Got the Capra, its a lovely bike. Photos to follow.

Needed to adjust the front caliper because it was rubbing. Tried undoing the bolts. They've been done up buy someone or something much stronger than me. Stripped the bolt just like it was butter. So thats ruined...

I've emailed YT to see what they will do about it. Im thinking long nose pliers or something. Either that or dremel a slit in the top and use a big flat head to remove it.

Still really peeved. They even gave me a sheet of torque specs in the box. Yet they ignore that completely.

A good set of vice grips will sort that right out, one of the best bodge tools in my box, nothing has stumped them yet.

Pretty annoying - I mean how much force must the muppet that built that bike have used to get the bolt in like that? And more to the point - why doesn't their QC make sure bikes don't ship with ****in rubbing discs on pads in the first place.

Part of the reason why I spent a touch extra doing a deal with my LBS on the Mondraker - if there was so much as a squeak out of the bike on collection I'd have left handed it back to fix, as it happened the bike was beautifully set up - no noises, bolts checked, grease where grease should be, cables clipped up nicely, true wheels, sag set, spoke cross-overs oiled, no scratches/marks or shipping knocks - just made the whole thing a lot more enjoyable. My OCD was in heaven.

I totally see the attraction in these online only bikes though - so much spec for the £.

Brake bolts will be loctited in place. Not much force to put them in, lots more force to get them out again.

Gonna bring home some rubber bands as some extra grip around the pliers.

If that doesn't work I have a friend coming over bringing a dremel and that should sort it. If not YT will be getting another email!

id stop hacking at it until YT respond to be honest.

although brake bolts should really not be that hard to undo. even with loctite.

Personally mate, I was a lot less than impressed by any of the trails there, felt like a wasted journey for me, long old slogs up for bugger all fun back down, disliked the place a lot, definitely wouldnt waste my time going back.
Deadwater and the black upper was such a terrible disappointment, bloody bush had a few detours which affected portions of the boardwalk and just felt overall a waste of time, i was so annoyed that I sacked it early and stopped in at Hamsterley on the way back just to get me out of my mood.

Can't recommend Kielder to be honest, the trails are.... moderate, but the big downside to them is the length of time it takes to get there!

You think you're close... but then there's still another 40 mins or so of driving to do, and the same back out again, just to get back to a half decent road.

There's an epic section of boardwalk with step ups, skinnny sections, a wooden bridge and it's awesome fun, 10-12ft up in the air, but it's really only a little treat for such a trek out.

It's worth doing at some point to see how it is, and they've built a couple of new bits quite recently that were quite fun, but if you're making a trip out that way, go to Glentress instead :D

Well, we went. And it was cack. As expected.

How far do you guys travel for your trails? Im visiting a private set of trails around 40 minutes drive away tomorrow and hamsterly is around an hour away so plenty of choice for the foreseeable but im interested to hear what your usual jaunts are in terms of travel time.

Depends on where i am working in the country.
When i'm in N Yorkshire as i am most of the time, hamsterley is my local, so 30-35min drive is normal.
and upwards of an hour, hour 30 if i want to ride anything further afield like warnecliffe or esholt etc.

If i'm back up north around dundee, closest is 10min drive, all the way up to 1 and a half 2 hour drive to the likes of fort bill and such.

If i'm down wiltshire way then tidworth is 10min drive and aston hill about an hour/hour 30.

I'm used to traveling to ride, i have no problem with a couple hour drive to get a good days riding in, its all part of the game.

:D please tell me you climbed all the way to the top of deadwood?:D:D:D how pointless is that climb?
even the fun looking skills loop at the bottom sucked ass apart from a few small jumps, majority of man made stuff was old slimy wood with no chicken wire, absolutely deadly when ridden!

About an hour to my 'local' spot. Well worth it, the more than hour climbing doesn't always feel it though :p

Back garden backs onto a cycle path that takes us to 2 bike parks. One 6 miles away, the other 3 miles away. The Cairngorms are about a mile away. Hundreds of miles of tracks. 2 red routes an hours drive away. Glentress and Fort Bill around 3 hours away.

Wolftrax? So jealous, can't wait to move back up there.

My first outing on the YT. I'm a rubbish rider but good to see any issues with the bike.

One of the brake lines rub against the frame and the bottom cog on the rear is too close to the frame. Its eating my frame lol.

The 2012 olympic track has been close to the general public but some of the others were fun.
