Mountain Biking

Well I need to send my YT back.

They are going to offer some compensation and a fully repaired bike based on my front brake rubbing and the rear being eaten up by the chain.

Pic incase anyone cares. Going to miss riding it.

You're doing the right thing.

No way I'd accept that crap on a £300 bike let alone a £2000 one.

The guy on the phone gave me two offers.

1. He will send me some free stuff and some correction paint if I get it repaired locally
2. I will send the bike back and they will repair it.

I went for number 3.

Repair my bike to as new condition and send me some free stuff. He didn't really like doing that but I think thats acceptable to me. Considering the repair is estimated to take 3 weeks... Probably more...

Why not just push for a new replacement bike? *confused*

Is that something that I could ask for? Thought I was pushing it as is.

What could I ask for? Someone help me with a reply email lol.

EDIT: Well I got a reply. The compensation was only if I got the bike repaired locally. If I send it back they will give me a free tshirt after speaking to the supervisor

Also my bike is being repaired. They won't give me a replacement...

Need help with a reply please.

I think if you buy something new and it's damaged then you should be well within your rights to get it replaced.

At the very least they should give like 10% of what you've paid back.

That's one thing I liked about halfords, I wouldn't always sing their praises but I had issues with a new bike and the manager gave me £90 quid for the inconvenience and a replacement bike.

Hey guys,

hoping to pick your brains for a little bit of help/advice. It was my best mates birthday not too long ago and I want to book a day at Bike Park Wales with a full days bike hire on probably a Slash 7. We both ride hardtails currently so thought it would be a fun to ride a Full Sus for a day as I know my mate will really like it. We are fairly competent riders but being our first time will stick to the blues and maybe a couple of the reds depending how we get on.

Have any of you guys been to BPW and hired bikes before, if so what were your experiences? Is it worth doing? Any issues or recommendations you can make?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bike park wales is awesome if your new or old to riding. The blues are crazy fast and fun. Hiring a full suspension whip is a good idea, i personally wouldnt want to spend a day there on a hardtail!

Good call - their rentals are great and so is the park, you'll love it. Only one recommendation, book well in advance as soon as you can ;)

My reply to YT. I'm going to push for a replacement.

---

I've been advised by some of my biking friends to ask a few things.

Will my existing frame be replaced or just "fixed" repairing the scratches and whatnot
Will the front caliper bolt be removed without damage to the forks?
Could I not get a new bike in replacement of the one I send in? That one with proper checks could then come back to me quicker than repairing the bike I currently have. Negating the waiting times.

On a personal note I would prefer a replacement in return as that would avoid future issues from the repair.

My friends also want to go Wales. Now I can't go. Never buying a YT again. This sucks!!!!

A hardtail is just as much fun there as on a full susp!!!! :D

@infernox I take you haven't sent the bike back yet? If not, push for a replacement. Trust me if you need help knocking up an email.

I was thinking the same, unless the frame is somehow compromised?

I would be a bit annoyed for sure, but don't think i could do without my bike for a few weeks unless it was damaged in such a way that I had no choice

My year old Aeris is covered in scratches, the ground here doesn't help (just rocks everywhere) and that I keep falling off. Doesn't bother me too much, if I still keep it when I get back from Cyprus I might get it re-sprayed.

Sending your bike back because of scratches is abit over the top aye?

If you use your bike properly its going to look worse than that!

Its not just scratches. I'm sending it back because the frame geo is compromised. The chain shouldn't be ripping chunks out of the frame.

Also one of the caliper bolts is rounded and I need to adjust it to stop the brakes from rubbing. I'm doing it because of both of these things. Couldn't care less about scratches.

Is the frame geo really comprimised or is it just poor gear selection/setup/shifting? Is it a double chainring upfront or single? Cold be rear mech setup poorly or even bent.

Get em to send new caliper bolts or im sure i read that someone took their bike to a local bike shop and yt sorted it through them.

Just thinking of all your hassel of re packing, sending, waiting god knows how long for a solution then waiting for redelivery!

How far do you guys travel for your trails?

I live next to clifton country park so have access to philips park within a few minutes, and can ride all the way along the river to access moses gate, between the two there is plenty to be going at. Slightly further afield there is Rivington 20 minutes away with some great trails.

I think for a bike of this price, i would rather do it through them.

I'm not paying for anything and they are going to replace my frame and anything damaged. Replacing the rear crankset, replacing the derailer. Would my LBS do that? no.

Even replacing the forks if they scratch them when they take the bolt out.

Can't really argue with that. Yeah I won't have my bike for 3 weeks or so, I have some other stuff to get on with anyway.
